Computer power-up but nothing more!
hello.
i left my computer on overnight, but when i woke up, i closed an ordinary program, then the computer had suddenly shut down completely. I tried turning it back on, but it only switched on for 2 secs, den shut itself down again. I have tried to leave it to cool down for a while but the same thing happens. I then tried installing a flatscreen moniter power supply(1 port), to see if it was going to work. It did, but the computer only started up with a complete blank , black screen, and THEN i smelt burning. I removed that psu and chucked it away, n inserted my old 1(2 port). Same happened with the better power supply but no burning. Im sure it has nothing to do with the voltage of the old power supply because i used it for a very long time and hasnt given me failure like this. Would you suggest i buy a better psu anyway?? |

You might try but the burning is a sign of a short circuit... which could mean bad news for your hardware

the damage had already been done when you used the temporary power supply. whatever it is that you smelled that had been burning, happened inside your computer case. open it up and look for any burn marks on your motherboard, gfx card, or any other component of your computer.

the best i can say is to take apart your computer and boot your machine one component at a time.

Not only take it apart and try one thing at a time but get a new quality PSU

psu will soon be bought. what do you mean by taking apart components and booting up the computer?
can i jus note that when i do turn on the computer(when it works) the computer beeps at the start everytime as usual. this time the computer just turns on, but nthing else. no beep noises or loading noises. just a computer which turns on, and does nothing else. (blank screen) |
