4:3 video modes at a 16:10 widescreen LCD display

Hi everyone! I've got a trouble with my ViewSonic VA1912w widescreen LCD display (natural resolution 1440x900). There are some games which don't support any widescreen video modes, and I dislike that stretched image with distorted geometry very much. Can I make them to use 1200x900 (4:3) centered area of the screen somehow?
I tried to use "Image Scaling" option in my ATi Conrol Center (I have ATi Radeon 9600 Pro), but that's not quite what I need; besides, it doesn't work for all applications.
