50% increase...Who will deliver?
I've been wanting to get a 9500 PRO for awhile, but now that I look at it. I think it will be a waste of money. I'm looking for a significant increase in performance. Something along the lines of 50%. So far I'm not seeing that happening with the latest 9700 PRO even. Basically, when I get a new video card, I want to see my 3D Mark 2001 score double. I've got a 9100 (BIOS FLASHED) right now. When I first got that card from my measly ATI Xpert 2000, I was thrilled to see the significant increase in performance. Will the R350 deliver that? Or will I be waiting for the R400?
Plan A: Get 9500PRO or 9700PRO when it drops to $200 - $150 CDN Range. Plan B: Wait for r350 to drop to same price range. Plan C: Wait for R400 to hit with that price range. It's A LONG WAIT!

A 9500 Pro is a HELL of a step up from a 9100! Ok, my bench from my 8500 to 9500 Pro was only 8,250-->10,000...but the gaming! Man, life is DIFFERENT with 4xAA 8xAF & 50+ FPS! Dude, the 9500 Pro IS a huge step even if the benchmarks don't exactly show it.

I hear ya D.W.
Only 10000 score on 3DMark... i know 3D Mark isn't everything, but it's a good reference point for me.

No_Style, my advice is to wait til Marchish when the r350's come out - then you'll see the full lineup of everything and be able to make a better choice and get a better price on everything currently available

Or...do a little research and get a 9500 for around $150 (US) now.
Then go here - http://www.guru3d.com/rivatuner/ - and use their utility to turn it into a 9500PRO or 9700, depending on the type of 9500 you got. They explain the details of what to look for and how the process works. I guarantee you'll notice the difference. Being that you already have a 9100, which was a great card, you're prolly not going to see a 50% boost over that, but I still think the base price you'd pay now with the free extra "tweaked" performance you'd get is well worth it. |
