keep an eye on it, if you so much start seeing more of that showing up, i'd highly suggest looking into RMAing it because that's a sign of memory going bad. (enless your overclocking)

watch out when you play games too. if it does it while playing games, then it's closer to total failure than you think.

You could try to re-seat the cooler of the card. If it is not making proper contact, both the core and the V-RAM will overheat. Just take it out, clean everything up with something non-conductive (such as pure alcohol or isopropylic alcohol) and re-seat it by using a little bit of quality thermal grease.

It is my guess too that the memory is just going bad though. It is somewhat common for the 9XXX series cards I'm afraid...

Edit : I just noticed that you have a OCSystems card. Aren't these pre-overclocked, pre-modded cards? If the card had voltage mods on it, they would seriously reduce its lifespan...

This just means upgrade... new mobo for pci express... new processor ( maybe a X2 4000) and a new ati 1800 or 1900.... yeah.... its deffinately time for an upgrade!

If the card still under warranty, I suggest you RMA sap. I don't care, it's the best way because I see alots of people put it off and then it's too late.

Amazing! - i just hopped on the board on the odd chance someone might diagnose my own problem, and right way I ended up seeing this thread which describes exactely what I'm going through....This sort of intermittent graphic corruption...even the patterns are very similar...

If had this 9800pro for about 2 years trouble free but I guess the memory is starting to melt down as you suggest...No chance this could be a driver issue, rather than a hardware one?

Any one of a bunch of things can cause the type of problems mentioned (in your case, fer312t, it's mostl likely memory related): corrupt drivers, bad video memory, bad RAMDAC, bad resistor/capacitor on the video card, overheating card, or fried GPU. Also, if your card requires the extra power you might want to check you power supply as a bad PSU can screw up a card this exact same way. Problem is, there really isn't much you can do in all cases except to RMA the card, try underclocking the card to see if it's heat related, and in the case of the drivers just reinstalling them, or trying a different set to see if that helps.

Ummm try blowing a huge fan onto the card and run it... Test it with ATI Tool and all and see if it overheats again. Might just be getting hotter than usual.
