For socket A cooling you should get a Zalman, they work quite excellent. |

a vantec areoflow will work nicely. better than stock, but still not the best air cooling solution out there. more of a mid-ranged type thing.

IMO, i don't like the hyper 48. i suggest you get the Zalman as H3X suggested earlier and use some as5 to go along with it.

You might try AS5 first though... if the heatsink is cool and the proc is hot thats a sign that the heat isn't being transfered properly

it'll work
. i sold many of those in a s939 rig, and they have the bracket to support socket A processors, so it can still be used in your next upgrade

I have been talking to one of my mates who knows alot about computers and he said that flower fans are only good to keep the noise down but not that great for cooling but im not interested in keeping it quite i perfer it to be noisy but will make it so if i wont to overclock it i can. so what would be the best cooler for that kind of thing?

yes. the zalman has a control knob which allows you to manually adjust the fan speed so that you can make it noiser or quieter. also, compared to other coolers in its "flower" class, the zalman i linked is the best one available in terms of low noise output and cooling effectiveness.

The Zalman CU 7700 fits on socket A too, and it is an very potent cooler using a 120 mm fan...
![]() Edit: My bad the 7700 doesn't fit on the socket A platform....but the 7000b-Cu isn't a bad cooler at all, with a decent TIM applied correctly it should perform within a couple of degrees from the best coolers.

I have been looking at how big it is and i dont think it will fit on my motherboard becasue i think it will hit the northbridge whats abit of a problem but i have been looking and i have found some that might fit size wise but i dont know if the the way they are put on is different? and what do you think about the Zalman CNPS9500, Thermaltake Big Typhoon or the coolermaster hyper 48?

zalman - according to newegg, it won't fit socket A
thermaltake - the typhoon is a mock of the thermalright xp-120 coolermaster - the hyper 6+ works for socket A. you can use it w/o fans, but to get those lower temps you want, you'd want to get some air moving across the heat sink. honestly though, of those you mentioned, i'd rather get the zalman flower. the 92mm one works great .

What would be better a £40-50 water cooling or air cooling for the same price??

i'm not sure you can actually find a 40-50 euro water cooling kit anywhere. and if you do find one, i'd be worried about it's quality. the cheapest one i've seen is $180 (USD)....probably like $140 euros, and it was made by coolermaster.

if you're going to be spending ~$100 USD on water cooling, it better be at least as good as the best air cooling out there, lol

i would first try if the thermal paste does the job. by the sound of your problem (hot cpu, cold heatsink) its just the paste that doesnt do his job right
after you tried the paste, and its still that hot, i would consider buying better cooling. Air cooling does the job all right, i would only consider watercooling if you're gonna overclock the thing. but hey, if you can get decent watercooling for the price of an aircooler. i would say, get it! but as far as i know, decent watercooling is alot more expensive then regular air cooler. and there are alot of good air coolers out there. try Zalman (as mentioned before), arctic, thermaltake.. there are alot good things out there. im just saying, dont spend more money then neccesary. Maybe its just the thermal paste, and you're looking for watercooling!!

Don't bother watercooling Socket A unless you want to specifically hit the 2600MHz mark with uber high volts... Socket A doesn't warrant watercooling especially since it can be a pain in the butthole to try and install it with out killing the chips (unless you buy a really good kit which is then overkill).
