Wife system head and noise
So i built my wife my old computer parts about 6 months ago and it started to blue screen in online games... was not sure until today that it was the power suplly but i bought a new one and the crashing is gone. Now comes my problem. The CPU is putting out huge ammounts of heat and i even have a thermtake 92 mm fan heat sink on it. The power supply i bought today is having to run the fans full speed to keep cool as it is thermal controlled. Any one have any ideas? the system specs are bellow and i am highly considering replaceing the MB and CPU for a 900 series like mine as i love it.
P5p800 Asus MB LGA 775 Pentium 4 550 (3.4 ghz) Xfinity 600 watt ps (new was a antec 430 true power but was not enought) x800 pro agp 1 gig (kingston hyper x ddr 400) |

what is ur wifes current cpu specs?
And overheating is generally caused by poor airflow in the case.(i had the same problem. The guys around here helped me out) How many case fans do u have?Don't throw away anyhting just yet |

have you monitored your power output to see if the psu is pushing to much power

Hackerx:
It is a p4 550 (3.4 ghz 800 mhz fsb) The case is a thermaltake centurion with 1 120 mm fan rear and a 80 mm fan on the front. It has a port to exhaust the CPU heat out the side door. MRBUSA: No what should i look for on the voltages? |

your 12v,5v,and 3.3v rails should be as close as possible to those numbers.
you will have to look up what your vcore is for your cpu and make sure it is not overvolting.it does not take much extra power to the cpu to overheat the core. |

have you actually monitored the CPU's temps? if so, what is it running at both at idle and full load?

If it uses a 4 pin HSF, the target temperature is set in BIOS, with fan speed only increased as that is approached/crossed.

it is a 4 pin fan. This CPU has always run hot... like 40 C idel and 60 under full load. Per intel that is normal as the spec is like 70 C for termal issues. I will check on the voltages.

the temps there looks okay to me. why you think "The CPU is putting out huge ammounts of heat..." ?

ya man. those temps and specs are perfectly fine for the system she has.

The ammount of heat being put off the Heat sink is huge. Just a thought as the power supply has to work at full tilt for a PS that is suppose to be silent. Worst part is the blue screens are back too.

i know that asus probe is saying your volts are ok,BUT...........
i personally have never seen volts that high on the 5v and 12v rails.every system i have owned or repaired has been in between 12.0?? or 11.9??.your 3.3v output is fine and so is your vcore for most cpus,im not sure what cpu you are running so i cant be for sure. |

Maybe the thermal paste needs replacing or the case needs some intake fans? |

It has intake fans... might do some artic silver on it though... cant remember if i just used the heatsink tape that came with the thermaltake cooler or not.
