Digital Camera advice please???

Hey folks,
I know that this question gets asked often (even helped with a few...) but the market changes so fast that I thought it would be good to ask y'all...

My wife wants a digital camera, ballpark 250.00 (US) street price (the sweet spot...), and I have looked some and come up with the Canon A700 and the Kodak Z650 cameras as good candidates for purchase. I'm going to purchase a Canon Pixma 4300 printer as well (yes, we're coming out of the financial debt abyss - finally, thank the Lord...) as we've been without a printer for several months now - time to throw away the Canon BJ 4400 from the Win95 days!

Anyway, my wife is a feature freak - loves those "modes" - esp. Black and White mode... I am a fanatic about lens and processing quality. Also concerned (and Canon is great for this I know...) about reliability, support, and so forth. Please lend your wisdom all... It'll be a week or two before we purchase.

Edit: My wife, pushing the limit on price, found the Panasonic DMC-FZ7K - looks awesome, checking specs now (Leica lens 12x optical!).
