I have been gone from the PC industry lately, school, work, and everything else got in the way. I haven't noticed much change since I left, except the Conroe's and the 7900 series from nVidia. I was thinking about buying a new computer, starting with a processor. Is this a good time to buy? Is there anything coming up now that SP3 and Vista are coming out? If so, what's good? I noticed the AMD X2's dropped a lot, a 4800+ for $282.

Vista isn't coming out any time soon I don't think but Conroes do rock pretty hard. Only get an X2 if you want an upgrade to a current AM2 system... otherwise no point, Conroe is the only real option worth considering

Quite likely alot of hardware after the release, in which case if vista launches jan 30th, call it maybe april/may before we see hardware specifically design for vista by that time.
