thegoldenstrand is on a distinguished road

How do you tell if your Monitor supports Dual Link DVI & how do we benefit?

I really don't know how to ask the write question or use the right words.. so this is just for starters, ok? I am thinking knowing dual link capabilities in monitors is important with all the newer, faster and better video cards now having dual versus single link capability. So which Monitors have it and.. if they have some, but not all.. is there hope to use them in a way that we can benefit from better screen resolutions and refresh rates on lcd monitors?

The Problem is, which Monitors will benefit from this?

I just bought an expensive for me.. Samsung 244T Monitor and.. it seems as though it might be limited to single link as its specs top it off at 165.. then again.. dual link is often described as just two 165 bandwidth links.. confusing for this old guy newbie to the world of dual link dvi.

1) Does the Samsung support Dual Link DVI?
2) Can the settings on the Samsung be hacked or reset to use use setings that will benefit from and use Dual Link DVI?

and.. how can you tell if a Monitor or TV will benefit from Dual Link DVI.

Confusing for me.. Yep.. I have read just enough to get myself in trouble.. white papers from silicon image.. various sites about DVI cable types.. etc..

So..??? All help appreciated!

Mike

TheBlackCat is an unknown quantity at this point

My samsung uses dual-link. I don't know about yours. I really haven't noticed a significant improvement relative to VGA in all honesty, although I haven't looked that closely.

Dual link cables look different from single link, as long as the connector physically fits it should work, check the manual to be sure.

You only benefit if you're running resolutions higher than 1600x1200@75Hz
