A tip too keep your LCD clean..............

I have used all types of cleaners too keep my LCD's clean.Windex,etc....etc....etc.All these things seem to leave a slight haze on the screen.....try this.Water.Just plain old tap water.Take 2 soft cloths.Dampen 1 SLIGHTLY.Clean the screen.Take the dry 1 and wipe it off.No haze.No fuss,no muss.Clean LCD.Every time.

The only product one might want to buy is a cheap microfiber cloth, and use it solely for monitors.

Something I had read once (for the life of me I cannot find a source) was a suggestion to use rubbing alcohol, this seemed a little extreme to me, but the source claims for LCD's this is the method used by manufacturers when the LCD's leave the production plant.
As far as I remember them claiming, there was mention that the screen on an LCD is different than that of a CRT. Rubbing alcohol will completely destroy the antiglare off a CRT (many contain ammonia), while it will not affect an LCD (because it is not made of glass) negatively except leaving it almost as good as new. But of course never spray any liquid directly onto any screen.

I've also heard if a product called Klear Screen, which is supposed to be endorsed by manufacturers. They also make a cloth used to wipe the screen. (as using paper towel or toilet paper is not a good idea because it will scratch your screen due to it being made from wood and paper and may contain remaining particles)

It is something i've never tried, but was always curious about.
I tend to use cloth and water.

It is. I have used water on LCDs for years now, almost everything on the market leaves some kind of residue on the screen.

Thats why when you clean the windows on your house you use water too

LCD cleaning is one of the worst things I have come across tbh. I've even had to replace an LCD because using Windex just destroyed the thing. Even just water is unacceptable to me. However I have been lucky enough to have family in Europe and they send me some very nice EMTEC TFT cleaning pads. They come in packs of two; a wet cleaning and a dry polishing cloth. They work amazingly well and leave the monitor looking better than new. I can’t find them for sale anywhere in the US but anyone in Europe should be able to find them. Here's a link of what they look like;

Not much of a temptation riding a harley mate id rather watch the tv !

I also think you misread my post, I dont actually clean windows for a living but I reckon most people have seen window cleaners cleaning them ? right? they use water with a bit of liquid soap. thats about it.

I find it hard to believe that nobody has mentioned spit.

I mean... hell... think of the amount of spittle we all.. spit.. at our montiors with all the cursing we do at it, and then proceed to wipe it off. It's just as good as water. Actually, probably better than water as it leaves a protective barrier behind, and it has a surprise benifit of marking territory (cuz nobody dares touch YOUR monitor after that without first using a good disinfectant).

I'm serious.

I'm seriously serious about being serious.

Seriously.

Directly, man. Directly. <Hoark.. putooh!>

Hey.. it works.. what can I say? Tried and true method (and man, you'd be amazed at how well it works for cleaning CDs.. although I recommend licking them instead). Think about it. Main ingredient is water, right? The bacteria, or "Cooties" (as they are more commonly referred to) is considered to be a bonus.

As for cloth, I use the most available thing I can find.... which is usually my shirt. They're made of European Hemp. Feels real soft too (and no, I haven't tried to smoke one yet... although... ).

Some peoples water is much more terrible then others. If i use water here, i'll never get the distasteful shit off lol.

I go to my local medical center and purchase the 99.6% Pure Isopropyl Alcohol. (don't both with that crap lower then this %age imo, it pretty useless). I can get 500ml for a buck or so.

Using like mentioned above, soft cloth, or even a silk cloth, a smidge of this stuff will clean up any monitor (CRT/LCD/Plasma) pretty damn good. And the alcohol dries so quickly, that the initial wiping tears off the oily residue quick, and dries clean.

That's what i use. Water leaves a nasty mess.

"Well, I used water to clean my monitor, and it leaves a crap load of mess all over my screen."

I had a customer say that once. My response?

Me: "Stop using your tap water."
Him: "Why"
Me: "Cuz you live north of the city, run your water off of a well, and you probably don't have a hard water treatment system, do you?"
Him: "Yeah, that's right. So what?"
Me: "What do you mean, "So, what"? Don't you know what a hard water treatment system is for?"
Him: "Yeah, it removes hard materials and minerals such as salts, lime, calcium, sand, and what not from the water so that.... OOOHHH.. I get it now."
Me: "Are you sure?"
Him: "Yeah. I'm scratching the screen using that water, and probably doing more damage to it than just that."
Me: "Exactly."
Him: "So, is filtered water is ok?"
Me: "Yeah.... or spit."
Him: "Spit?!?"

lol

tip, i was also informed (true or not) that the use of various chemicals, specifically chlorine could produce a negative effect on various screens, not completely apparent but a discoloring to the screen itself.

I know my water is horrid here for cleaning.

like i mentioned before, using Isopropy Alcohol which is rated 99+% pure, which is purchased from my local medical center. I use this stuff on all my monitors with excellent results, zero damage, no stripping away at the anti-glare or reflective coatings..

wheres swimtech when you need em.

What's he suggest?
