![]() that looks to me like all GF 7 series "with" Dual Link DVI supports the monitor at max res of 2560x1600@60 Hz if your card got the Dual Link DVI port, then try it along with the monitor driver. and see? |

thanks pangingJR. thats exactly what i was talking about. There shouldnt be any problem running it on his card. if its not running now, then Id have to say that it probably won't work right with a 78 or 79 card either since its a software issue.
So yea. Now all we gotta do is wait for smithy to try this out.

I didn't notice a specific brand name with all the specific details about that card.
a GPU can support a resolution, but the DVI port has on numerious occasions, been changed out for cheaper components by 3rd party manufacturers. This keeps the price low on the parts while mostly retaining speed of the actual gpu. I'm saying that i've seen plenty of nvidia and ati cards that by reference have a DVI-D port, but depending on the brand, and model specific, has had it removed and subbed in for a DVI-I port. 1360x768 is a default HDTV VGA input. (usually set aside from HDTVs with 720p and 1080i support, i haven't gotten my hands wrapped around a 1080p HDTV with VGA in yet) 1280x800 is the native 1/2 (truly 1/4) resolution of the dell 3007fpw. The Latest Drivers are required for the video card, but no drivers are really required for the monitor as it support PnP and all it's available settings should be automatically recognized. There should NOT be any reason why even an older version of the driver wouldn't recognize the display properly. I've swapped from various monitors, DVI-VGA and back again across several supported resolutions, the only issue which is obviously going to happen is unsupported resolutions being swapped and no signal enless you reboot. (i've been hopeing vista would resolve this issue by automatically detecting displays native modes or resetting to generic monitor reslution IF a display is disconnected and another one connected but that's a different topic).. ATI's DVI-D maxes out @ 2560x1600 resolution and under crossfile more is limited to 3200x2400 MAX. Nvidia's DVI-D's support max i understand 2560x1600, but converted to a VGA, maxes out at i beleive 4096x3072 i beleive, be it sli or not sli.

Well the other theory is this is quite an unbalanced setup. I have seen a low/mid range card powering a 24 inch screen and the quality of output (and ive seen around 200 video cards this year powering many screens in a review situation), even in 2d isnt as high as one of the top end models. I personally think its a false economy, but if someone wants to power a 1,500 screen from a 150 card, well thats their call.

btw, the screens cheapest wholesale price is about 1500 bucks USD, IF you can find that at all ANYWHERE...
retail is roughly 1700-1900 USD.... if your lucky. That screen is utterly amazing, but should easily be powered as long as the card pushing it meets the requirements.
