Memory help
I have a pentium d 930 processor and am buying an ASUS P5B Deluxe.
I want to know which of the foolowing would be better. 1. 2 x 512MB OCZ DDR2-800 RAM KIT 2. 2 x 1GB OCZ DDR2-667 kit In config 1,would the increased speed offset the reduced amt of memory. OR would config 2 be the better option. Please advice. |

I'd go option one for two reasons:
DDR2 memory prices are up right now - you could buy another pair later and the overall price would likely wind up being less than getting the 2G of 667 bought today... WinXP running most anything (excepting some pro applications - and Battlefield 2) doesn't perceptibly run that much faster with 2G of ram over 1G of ram.

despite the cost of memory prices, i would still go with the 2Gb kit over the 1Gb kit. you can do what swimtech said, but if you buy the extra ram later on, even if it's the same series ram you buy, the revision of the memory modules are likely to be different, which could cause conflicts between the old and new memory, and you'll be getting stuff like random restarts or BSODs and other memory associated issues.
also, if you plan on upgrading to Vista anytime, the OS will operate better on 2Gb than 1Gb of ram. winXP runs fine on 512Mb, but not Vista. |

well the prob is they aren't similalry priced.The 2 x 512 kit of DDR2 800 costs $200 approx.(converting from local currency)And the 2 x 1GB of the DDr2 667 costs around $450.
So will the extra gig be worth the price? |
