new pc ?
Im looking for a cheap new barebones pc, for gaming and recording.
I found a celeron 2.93 mhz 533 fbs, And a sempron 64 bit 3300 2.2 mhz , I cant find out what the fsb is on the amd. both are around $115, board,pc,tower,power, etc am i better off just waiting? im currently using p3 1.7 mhz 768 ram 150 gb 256 mb video for games, celeron 950 mhz 768 ram 120 gb 64 mb video for recording. I plan on mix and matching parts, And buying a new 3d card. I can also get firewire ports for 20 bucks should I get this? I have pre mobile usb so its not needed now, But I coud get a firewire interface later. __________________ does amd integrated bus actualy work like they claim? 1600 mhz the processer said 200 x11 = 2200 so wouldnt the bus be 200 with 64 bit. |

first of all, welcome to Driverheaven
.To answer your question, of the two systems you intend on purchasing, the celeron machine would be the better choice. however, because it is a celeron it won't perform as well as a pentium 4, pentium D, or the new intel core2 processors will. Although, seeing what you have now, that celeron would be a great upgrade .for the mix and match part you mentioned, about the only thing you'll be able to bring over will be just the hard drives and optical drives. anything else will have to stay in the old rig. if you can, go with something that supports PCI-E for the new gfx card format. firewire ports for audio recording are best not purchased. the best ones are the ones that already come on the motherboard. or so i've been told by some of my friends that do audio recording for their own music. it just gives them less problems, and it is also a faster data throughput because the data is not being bottlenecked by the PCI bus. for the data bus part on the AMD, i believe the semprons are 1600Mhz bus. the 200x11 you mentioned would be the clock speed, 2.2Ghz that you mentioned at the very beginning of your post. i believe for the bus it is 200x4 = 400, then there's another multiplier of 4 after that, so it would be 400x4 = 1600. i don't know exactly how it works, but it's something like that. |

it is a celeron d335, Sorry about that.
I seen benchmarks where the amd outpeforms p4 3.2, But you think the intels better, might be it has a 533 bus. Alot of people tell me about amd for gaming then I ask them about the bus or 64 bit and they have no answers. The price should be dropping on these soon anyways. |

the whole "it's 64bit so its better" line is old and incorrect. and well, at one point AMDs were better for gaming than intels were, but that was before the intel core2 was launched. but between a sempron and celeron, it's a close call really...

Sempron is better. My Celeron D 335 Sucks balls. And in benchmarks the sempron wins.

as a grown up person, and as a friend, as i'm. Dyre Straits you shouldn't jump to a conclusion on thing like these too fast, since he hasn't done anything that bad yet. okay i could be wrong (as always), so do you. however, you should handle thing like these with mods internally, PM mods or report the post will be much more better, you know that. Dyre Straits is okay. you can forget about this. and continue, like dj_stick mentioned earlier. |

I sent the PMs prior to this...and waited for some time before I made the comment to CDs. Only some time later did a MOD respond. Still, regardless of the method and time factor, the original post STILL had a strong appearance of Spamming. So....if this can clear the air: I do apologize if I jumped the gun on this one. However, I did follow procedures that have been in affect for some time. |

Avoid celerons and budget parts... you're best off getting the lowest Pentium D/4 you can afford then overclocking it, but spring for something on an 800Mhz FSB. That'll for sure give you alot more bang for your buck

if you can afford, consider Pentium processors D's platform, check out Pentium D 915.
Pentium D 915 (2.80 GHz non-VT) D0 stepping (S-spec number = SL9KB) ============= Pentium D 925 (3.0 GHz non-VT) D0 stepping (S-spec number = SL9KA) Pentium D 945 (3.4 GHz non-VT) D0 stepping (S-spec number = SL9QQ) |

I think the Pentium D 915 does have VT, I have an Intel chart right in front of me saying it does anyway, so does the 925

Intel Virtualization Technology
http://www.intel.com/technology/virt...tion/index.htm Intel Pentium D 9x5 do not support Intel VT. AFAIK they never have. http://www.intel.com/products/proces.../pentium_d.htm |

okay this may help you understand better... So you used Google. and what it tells you? the Intel Pentium D 9x5s (915, 925 and 945. these are the Pentium D's that i posted on the post #21) do or do not support Intel VT? you see... i was posting about Intel Pentium D 915, 925 and 945, not Intel Pentium D 930. why you wanted me to believe that what i have posted on the post #21 was having a wrong info? Fair enough.
To clarify, the chart I had did claim that ALL the 9xx series of Pentium D's had VT on them as long as they had an 800MHz FSB. That chart was released prior to the Pentium D's actual release, it was a projection. I was using that in my assumption that the 915 had VT. Realizing then the error of my way, I used Google to find the chart I posted at this link. Then I proceeded to post that information here, dissing the chart I used in the first place. I did not come here with the specific intention of trying to corrupt your mind or make you think that your information was false. I should have made an effort perhaps to be a little clearer in my clearing up, agreed, but it was not in anyway an attempt at dissuasion. |
