I came up with two builds. Please look them over and give any tips and thoughts about the builds. Let me know which one you would go with and why.
I already have the basics like a case, speakers, dvd-rw, cd-rw, keyboard, mouse, and soundcard. Athlon 64 AM2: http://secure.newegg.com/NewVersion/...Number=3915027 Intel Core 2 Duo http://secure.newegg.com/NewVersion/...Number=4281127 |

Barracuda 7200.10 250GB...
i'd suggest you reconsider having the 320 GB 16MB cache one over the 250GB 8MB cache. |

The main thing is that I have been an AMD supporter for a long time. I have built and used Intel systems as well, but for several years now I have stuck with AMD. The Intel Core 2 Duo e6600 looks like the best "bang for your buck" processor out there right now. It even bests the Athlon FX-62 in some of the gaming tests. http://www.extremetech.com/article2/...2014685,00.asp Last edited by EcPercy; Oct 9, 2006 at 04:39 PM. i personally would choose Intel Core 2 E6600... but since i'll also choose Intel chipset board over the others and since i'm not even close to know any things about AMD, so i hardly want to have to comment...

Do any of the Intel chipset boards offer SLI? That's the one reason I selected the Nvidia chipset model. I want to go SLI with this build. Even if I decide to just get one card for now, I want to have the ability to go with SLI at a later date.

i suspected that (since you pick board for SLI's).
i really don't know about the C2D with SLI support boards, so i guess you need to do some research... and more research. |

I will not be building this machine anytime soon. I will probably start saving after christmas. I do think that I will be going with C2D this time though. Just throwing around some ideas. Maybe by the new year there will be some more SLI based boards out there to choose from. On newegg I only saw a few boards that supported C2D. |

here is my C2D E6300 (1.86GHz) @2.52GHz (360x7)
![]() ![]() imagine what the E6600 would be getting when it's at 3.24GHz (360x9) and when it comes to overclocking it, it seemed easy enough. even i can do it. |

The only SLI you get for Conroe is select nForce boards for Intel, but I haven't seen too many of those out these days.
I wonder if its possible to run it on the P965's that have 2x x16 PCI-e clots like the other driver that came out that allowed it on some 975X's

My 965P supports 1 x16 and 1x4
. But, I would HIGHLY suggets waiting for the x1950PRO as it will be sweet, and crossfire it. 7900GTO SLI would also be better.

Thanks for the advice about the SLI portion. I thought that the only route would be to go with an Nvidia chipset.
As for Crossfire. Not gonna happen. I will stick with Nvidia, but the 2 slot versions of their card will not work as I need to be able to use the PCI slots.
