PSU problem or something else?
i know i just had that other thread i started, but everything seems to be ok there.
new problem has shown up now. i cant start my computer, most of the time. i just wrote it off as a glitch last night, but it did it again this morning. when i turn the computer on, the fans will spin up for about half a second to a second and then die and nothing runs. ill turn it off and then turn it on but then nothing spins up. flip the many power switch a couple of times on the back of the psu, unplug and replug in the main power plug, turn it on again and then everything turns on and the computer runs fine. im thinking faulty PSU that should be RMA'd. what do you guys think.

try the system with another power supply first...
and if things seems okay, then you can send the power supply for an exchange (if possible, try to get a better than this one). |

its a new psu, an antec NE 550. my old thermaltake 480w has been dieing for the last week or so.
id try it on my other computer, but even my dieing 480w is more then powerfull enough to run it with out a single problem.

i don't know how you can get another power supply to test your system... but you want to try another power supply on the existing system... this could be the easiest way to find out about the power supply.
you don't want to try the (may be) problem power supply with another system. |

It could also be that something is not plugged in properly. Check to make sure all connections are aligned correctly and that any power plugs are securely connected. I just went through a brief/similar situation last night after replacing a storage drive. When putting things back together, I omitted plugging in the power cord to my video card. System did exactly like you described. Another thing could be that the motherboard has shorted out against the case. If that's what it is, another PSU won't start up the system, either. I'd do a little more investigation before waiting on a replacement PSU. |

ill check over those things tomarrow seeing as its 4 am right now and im heading to bed.
on the upside so far, the system has been rock solid once its on. also, this morning when i turned it on it did start up on the first go with no hesitations. maybe something was shorthing out, or maybe it was just a fluke that it did start up right away. i dont know yet but ill have a better idea tomarrow morning. something i should mention, im really leaning towards it being the psu and not a shorth. reason i say this is becasue when i turned the system on for hte very first time with the new psu it started up with no problems at all. when i tried it the second and nothing had changed in the case or cables, thats when i started haveing problems. given that, im leaning towards a faulty psu.

i think ive found the problem and it is the psu. it seems to be a faulty power socket on the back of the psu.
this morning, again, the computer wouldnt boot on the first try. all i did this time was pull the plug out and jam/twist it back into the socket and it starterd up no problem. the thing seems to work its way loose, or fall out or something. i cant say for sure. ive used 2 diffrent power cords now and they all do the same thing.

you mean the female end of AC power cord of the power supply's that seems to work its way loose?
well, if so, then it's just the power cord... try finding one that has a better female plug, some of power cord are really better than the others. it's very easy on both plug in and pull off, it doesn't feel like it's tight, but it just stay there. |

its not the power cord its self, ive used 3 diffrent ones and theyre all a real nice tight fit.
i just slightly pushed the cord in today and it turned on no problem. i think theres an internal connection problem.

okay, you did that and the problem is gone, then it's still about the power supply.
is this the same power supply as before? then return it and get a replacement, and go from there like your first intention. |
