Thumbs Down! Hynix RAM?

Well my gaming performance is still pretty much pathetic for the system I have. I couldn't think of any reasons why this would be until I opened up my laptop to inspect all the components and happened to notice that I have RAM by a company called Hynix. Anyone ever heard of them before?

Anyways, I know a gig of RAM isn't exactly optimal for high-end gaming, but I know I should not be lagging in game the way that I am. Battlefield 2 is just not playable online. I spend about 10 minutes just trying to move around and all the while my system will hang every few seconds until it has had time to render the map.

Here's the specs for my system:

1Gig DDR2 Hynix RAM
Intel Core Duo T2300
Go 7800 256MB OC'ed 362/883
80GB 7200RPM HD

Snip from Hynix website

"Through the merger with LG Semiconductor in 1999, Hynix Semiconductor now has the world's largest DRAM production capacity as well as the industry's best technical development capacity by fully exploiting synergies resulting from the historical integration of both companies."

in the Radeon 9800PRO days, Hynix was THE ram to have.

i dunno about now though.

edit: Well there are a number of other issues that may be at hand. 2gb of RAM is suggested for BF2 but I've played it on a computer with 512mb (mind you LOW graphics) and it was fine.

so heres the trick. Maybe its your hard drive (5400RPM drives are a killer) maybe its a software issue (my money is on a software issue)

defrag your hard drive. delete unnecessary programs. Start figuring out whats sucking up all your memory. After that, THEN we'll start talkin hardware changes.

hynix is one of the largest memory chip manufacturers in the world. Definately nothing wrong with them.

what do you have for a video chipset in the laptop? That will make a far bigger impact than the memory type.

go 7800

I'm running the go 7800. I scored a 3228 in 3dmark 06, so I figured BF2 would be a walk in the park. I guess I can reduce the graphic quality down quite a bit, I figured that high detail at 1024x768 wouldn't be a problem for my system though

lol

really? wow, I guess that makes me feel better haha. I only paid $1200 for it about 2 months ago. If I could just figure out why it has such a hard time rendering textures on the maps

Well it might only be better depending on what resolution you used, I scored less than that at default settings.

It might be overheating, or in the case of some MacBooks (may also be a factor in your case), too much thermal paste

Not The Ram!

It's not the RAM giving me problems after all. I just downloaded "SpeedswitchXP" for processors using speedstep, and HOLY COW! Smooth as could be when I'm playing now I set it too maximum performance so now there are no fluctuations in processor speed while I'm playing.
