are there passive socket A coolers out there?
yea my bro got my AXP 2800+ and wants to passively cool it. hes getting a passively cooled graphics card and he has a passively cooled northbridge so he wants a passively cooled CPU. I guess he does have a 120mm fan running on the case but thats all.
I thought this was possible but the more I look the more it seems like this might not work??? any advice would rock.

try the slk-900 (i think that's the one) from ThermalRight. big huge copper heatsink. i think should get the job done
. if that doesn't work by itself, try a vantec stealth fan as they are superbly quiet.but i would try ebay at this point if you can't find a passive cooling solution for that socket A you got. |

I've done it on my comparatively tiny Volcano 7+ |

yea but he wants to play games.
and he wasnt complaining so much as just commenting that a silent PC would be cool and asked me to find out if there were passive CPU coolers. He has to get a HSF anyway (since i told him the heatsink was going to my friend) sides I dont have the hardware to make a fileserver out of the AXP rig. I'd need a hard drive for one...annnddd i dont have any of those lying around. Besides this desktop works fine as a file server. Its hooked up over the network to XBMC so I get a nice little home theatre setup.
