Please browse over this setup if you have time
After what has seemed like an eternity, all of the parts for my future computer are close to being released. This computer will be used almost exclusively for gaming. Please check out the parts listed if you have the time, and send any recommendations my way.
Here are my problems. The new GF 8800GTX is going to be 11 inches in length. With the case listed, do you all think it will fit? I assume the 680i chipset will be standard ATX, but I still don't know if the vid card will fit. I am afraid it might hit one of the internal drive bays. My other concern is that I do not know which media drive to get. I keep reading reviews of Plextor on newegg, and they don't seem to bode well (lots of them failing after 250 or so DVD burns). NEC keeps coming up as a good brand, but I can't find any particular models that I know are going to be pretty good. So, which media drive would you all suggest for me? All prices are in United States Currency. Processor: Intel Core 2 Extreme QX6700 (Kentsfield) $1000 Motherboard: nforce 680 SLI $200 Ram: 2GB Crucial Ballistix DDR2-800 kit for $260 Power Supply: Enermax (EGA1000-EWL) Galaxy Modular PFC 1000 Watt Power Supply- SLI Ready RoHS http://www.sundialmicro.com/enermax_ega100...s_1786_796.html $340 Video Card: Geforce 8800 GTX $650 Hard Drives: 2 Western Digital Raptor X 150 gigs on Raid 0 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16822136011 $400 Western Digital Caviar SE16 320GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16822136003 $100 Sound Card: X-fi XtremeGamer Fatal1ty Pro Series $150 Case: Apevia (aspire) X-pleasure Full Tower http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811144132 $115 Media Drive: Possibly a Plextor 760a http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827249003 but I am not sure... The total price comes to around $3215 without the CD-RW/DVD-RW drive. I will eventually be getting another video card, which is why I went with the 1000 watt 12v rail PSU. |

Is that the quad core cpu? IF yes, good move.
Get more memory if you can.

This is indeed my dream setup. It will become reality on the 8th of November whenever the 680i and 8800GTX are relased for sale. With my new job, I can finally build a true gaming rig.
My main reason for posting was to see if yall could help me determine whether or not the video card would fit into the case I am buying. The other question was about whether or not the Plextor 760a was a good media drive. Just in case there was any confusion, I am actually purchasing these parts to build a computer. Oh and the processor is quad core. Should I get 4gig of ram BlueMak? |

The best option you could possibly get would be a Blu-Ray Drive.

4GBs of RAM would be great.
I disagree about the blue ray drive. Don't get any next generation drive yet, waste of money IMO. I don't know about the case's size, sorry. Plextor have a good reputation, but I have had bad luck with them, not going to get one again. I don't follow the specific market anymore, but I always liked Philips and NEC drives.

the 8800 gtx is long but it should be able to fit into any full tower ATX case.
U might wanna look at the antec 900 case instead though there's nothin wrong with this. Don't get a blue-ray drive just yet.Its extremely expensive and theres no media to run on it. Other than that perfect build.U might wanna get the xi-fi elite instead of the fata1ty.(unless u want the funky lightning emblem on the front bay) And just curious. What exactly is ur new job?(u don't need to answer if u don't want to) |

Avoid BluRay like the plague....expensive, no support, HD-DVD is coming out and may prevail...
At least the +/-R DVD thing was sorted, this looks to be a nightmarish format war for consumers |
