external harddrive gone mad
i have this harddrive (250gb) dont know the brand. it doesnt stand on it (its from a friend)
when copying or pasting large files to the hardrive, the harddrive will reset itself, causing it to start up new. What could be wrong... files being transmitted are lost. i think there is something wrong with the harddrive, as my computer is fine..

Sounds like its power pack is damage or the drive got banged up badly. My 2.5" bus powered drive resets the heads without enough power.

allright, thanks for the reaction. if i understand it right, thats the power pack inside the ext. drive? the friend told me the thing sometimes resets when transmitting a file of 700mb, or even with 100mb. and sometimes nothing happens.. i tried with a file of 3gb, and after 1gb it reset itself.. but i guess the thing's just broken..

Well that's why it sounds like as soon as the seeking happens (increased draw) the power brick (usually they have an inline AC-DC converter) is either really damaged or overheating
