guess i gotta get a new case then. My TT Xaser II just won't be cutting it in the "keep the HDDs cool" department while i have my x800 or any other equally sized or larger card installed in my machine.

Hdd cooling is a big reason I really like the case review by DH Here - Antec Solo.
And I throw in with Tipstaff and PangingJr - I've seen many more failed Maxtors than WD's and Seagates - but each of the companies have had their "phases" over the years. Maybe now that Seagate owns Maxtor their reliability will improve.

AFAIK the Maxtor's own technology DiamondMax 10/11 drives are still available on some market areas.

Late model Maxtor drives may have been faster at one point, but as soon as Seagate bought them and all their intellectual properties and technological goodies, they opened up a can of whoop ass on the hard drive world known as the 7200.10 series.
I'd be interested to see what Seagate could do with PRT and 10,000 RPM... then they'd REALLY kick WD in the goulies |

then that's quite a lot of money.
with that amount of money i think i can probably create my storage space under the Intel ICH8R ICH like this... RAID0 4x Barracuda 7200.10 SATA 3Gb/s model "ST3250620AS" 250GB 16MB multisegmented cache... drives will be installed on a external storage tower for 4 hard drives with an infiniband multilane connector (for 4x SATA drives) and its own power supply/cooling fan, connecting to the main system via a multilane cable and a multilane bridge for SATA controllers (for 4x SATA ports). and then another RAID0 of 2x Barracuda 7200.10 SATA 3Gb/s model "ST3400620AS" 400GB 16MB multisegmented cache. total storage space is about same as yours. |
