Pc100 Ram
Ok, I'm hopeing not to get flamed on this but my brother just gave me his old Dell Latitude C600/500. It has 512Mb Ram already but i've read that it can support 1GB. Does anyone know where I can buy 2x512 PC100 RAM chips?

You can also check out Newegg, but ebay is probably the way to go.
Also, you don't need to be worried about being flamed for asking a question here at DH. We staff won't put up with it, so ask away! |

According to Crucial, the range only supports 512MB max using 256MB modules - I'd take the 1GB figure with a pinch of salt, as crucial are usually pretty accurate on maximums and bank type/maximum limits.

You can but you'll pay through the nose, I know someone who did something similar and had to pay more for the PC100 than she would for an equivalent amount of top end DDR2 SODIMMs.
But hey... if that's all the money you spend on it then why not

thanx for the help guys, the laptop has a P3 1Ghz w/ 512 RAM. The reason I want more RAM is I can't watch movies, they all start lagging and the audio/video goes outta sync after juswt a few seconds. Any suggestions on something I can do about this? I'm already using Media Player Classic but it's still doin it. Also is there a program where I can configure the touchpad on my laptop???

For the lagging thing I'm not sure the RAM is the problem, it may be the CPU or the codecs you're using. I mean I have an Athlon K7 600Mhz with 512MB of PC100 and it plays movies smoothly believe it or not

For the Touchpad, settings will be in the drivers - From what I've read, it appears it may be a synaptics pad, and the synaptics drivers are truly ACE. http://www.synaptics.com/support/index.cfm
I had a synaptics pad (in a desktop keyboard) , and I generally used tap gesture mode (tap, double tap and the tricky to learn "tap-grab"), turned off the scrolling areas, as I kept slip-scrolling by accident.

That thing is an evil piece of crap as far as I'm concerned. I use the codec packages from the makers of the codecs that I use... i.e. the DivX package for DivX movies etc. I find those codec packages to be more of a pain and headache than a time saver because they often use free software DVD decoders and such that are so poorly optimized that nothing but an uber beast machine can run them with decent performance. |
