What is so hard to believe exactly? Most computer components lose more than 50% of their value after 6 months. That FX-55 which is for sale and once sold for 1000$ is just as fast as a E6300, which costs 200$ more or less and it's newer technology. Never mind the overclocking factor. It is quite right that it will cost that low now, since it requires older technology to work with (motherboards, RAM, etc).

That's why I never recommend buying the latest and greatest, it costs too much for what you'll get after some time. And that's why buying the 'previous generation' hardware is usually the best upgrade. An FX-55 paired with a good VGA card and 2GB of RAM is more than a worthy system for every use and will last quite some time.

Running AutoCAD or other things like that (multithreaded heavy duty apps) because your primary income depends on you being able to render drawings faster, something like that.
