Hi There!
I assume that the drives are PATA drives. So make sure that they are connected. For 2 PATA drives you need cable that has three connectors, one for the motherboard and two for the drives. And make sure that the drives jumpers are set correctly. That the drive you have Windows installed is master and the other is slave. Hope this helps.

its the same config as my old pc, 100g master 40 gig slave.
I thought there ide same connector as my dvd,cd rom but the mobo says ata.
I used the old connector from my other machine, since it has the double side for hdd, but since the mobo came with a single is it possible it doesnt support 3-4 ide connections it says it does. here a pic

IDE controllers support 2 drives each.

If you have 1 IDE port it will support 1 master and 1 slave device.

If you have 2 it will support 2 master and 2 slave devices.

You have 1 IDE port meaning 1 IDE controller, meaning 2 drives.

i was saying it came with a single wire so is it possible it only supports two total drives,
it does have two ports it has them labeled master and slave but only the slave dvd,cd was reading correct. thats why i posted the pic.

you have 2 x ata connectors. so you can have max 2x master and 2x slave drives. put your hard drives to the blue connector and dvd to the black.

sorry i can't edit above post due to my browsers/proxo settings for linux's are not quite ready yet.

read your motherboard manual and check the following...

- Master and Slave jumpers settings on hard drive's and CD/DVD drives
- 80-wire IDE cables. and how you connect these cables to your IDE devices and the IDE connectors on the motherboard.
- BIOS settings under both the "Advanced" screen/IDE Configuration and "Boot" screen.

I found the problem it was the power supply only one of the connectors was working so it only powered my dvd burner and cd rom, I switched the power wire and it detected my hard drives and not my roms.So i have to try to return the power supply hopefully its not a hassle and they dont want me to send the whole tower. Thanks for trying to help.

That's a real shame on the PSU. Is it new, too?

In the meantime, you could possibly use some Y splitters to get power to everything.

hah, you had pay attention to what yourself said about "They were both working earlier in the day" then.
now i think it would be better off for you and your computer in the long run if you could buy a separate power supply.
i believe Enermax or some other well known brands have some good budget power supplies in 350W/400W range.

the drives were working in my other pc, yeah its a new power supply 450 watt.the main reason I bought the rig was I couldnt get a good price on a tower and psu, I found cheap cpu, mobos, ram, but they wanted $15 to ship the case.So I got the case,450 psu,mobo,2.8 p4 800fsb for 150 shipped. The mobo is upgradable to conroes so I can get a fast pc step by step, I got 1gb ddr2 ram for 85. And was about to buy a 512mb x1600 pro for 99 but I hesitated remebering low benchmarks and the sale is over. Anyways I sent the company I bought this from a email around 7.p.m. waiting for them to get back to me, if they make me ship the whole case to them ill flip... Im sopposed to have a 1yr warranty but you know how that goes if they give me a hassle Ill just return it since I bought it a few days ago.Where would I get the y splitters from radio shack? I could use just common ones or do i need a pc version.
