Found New Hardware - Already Installed

My OS is Windows XP. Every time I reboot, I get Found New Hardware pop ups for my CDRW/DVD, Maxtor, IDE Controller, and two IDE channels. I went to Device Manager. They are listed once and do not have a yellow triangle or !. How so I stop these pop ups from appearing?

Hi there and welcome to DH!
Sounds like you don't have chipset drivers installed. You need to install them. Can you tell what the manufactor of your PC’s motherboard? And it's model.

That is the internal modem, the part that is used (if using dial up connection) to the internet.

We are looking for something that has the name Asus or DFI, or MSI, or Via, or Gigabyte, or SuperMicro, or Asustek, or ASRock, or EVGA, or even Intel. (in the last one though, not if it has some frequenc number next to it like 3.0Ghz etc

??? Motherboard

I'm sorry. I don't know anything about computers, and don't know where to look for the info you need. I looked in the Device Manager, but don't know what I'm looking for.

Go to this link and download the latest Belarc Advisor. Run it and it will produce an exhaustive amount of information about your computer...including the Motherboard and everything else 'under the hood'.

Good luck!

PS Don't be afraid to do this. Note that I have nearly 9000 posts on this forum.

what is the message that the found new hardware wizard pops up to tell you after it attemps to install those devices,
successfully installed..., cannot install this hardware..., or something like the specified service does not exist as an installed service??

also, open the Device Manager and click Scan for hardware changes under the Action menu,
take a picture of your Desktop and post here.

First, I have a Dell Dimension 2400 Series computer. I don't know if that's of any help or not. Second, when the Found New Hardware Wizard window pops up, I select next. The system browses, and then I get a message "The hardware was not installed because the wizard cannot find the necessary software."

It means that the wizard can't find the right drivers for the hardware. Since you have Dell Dimension goto Dells website and select support. From support select your computers model. Then look for it's drivers. Download drivers that are needed. Like chipset dirvers. And install them.

It was evident that my computer didn't have the chipset drivers installed. I installed them and restarted the computer. I still get the Found New Hardware Wizard for the devices. I do appreciate how you're trying to assist me with this frustrating situation.

i had this problem once too. Not for all my devices, but for my hdd and cd-drive... haven't tried to update or install chipset drivers but did a fresh install of windows (with installing all neccesary drivers) and that sorted it out.

but i don't know if you want to go that drastic, i'm sure there must be another way to sort it out..

I don't know that much about computers to reinstall Windows. I'm afraid I might mess something up. Thanks anyway.

Joan,

Let me ask you this: Does this happen even if you simply restart the computer without shutting it down? Or, does it happen only after you've shutdown the computer and turned it off?

Here's the reason I ask this: There's a battery inside the computer on the motherboard about the size of a nickel. It's a CMOS battery. If that battery dies your motherboard can't keep a record of which devices are installed. If the computer has any age to it, it could be the battery isn't charged enough, OR even may not be inserted correctly.

Has this problem been happening for very long? When did you first notice it?

It does it even when I restart the computer. The computer is 3 yrs old. I have been having this Found New Hardware issue for a couple of months. I have reached out to other forums for their help, but nobody seemed to know what the problem could be.

Merry Christmas.

At three years old, I'd definitely check out the CMOS battery.

And, Merry Christmas to you, too!
