I need a real genius to answer a question....

Monday I ordered 2 ASUS 8800GTX's for my Intel X-Treme rig.I had 2 7950's in it.I also had 1 7950 in my FX-55 rig{see specs below}......so I figured I would install 1 of those 7950's I took out of the Intel X-Treme rig into the FX-55 rig.And thus, make it into a Quad SLi rig....Understand so far?Good.I installed the 7950 into the FX-55 rig.So now I have 2 7950's in the FX-55 rig.Booted it up.First thing I checked was device mgr. too see if all 4 cards showed up.All 4 did.So I ran some benchmarks{by now i'm sure U can see where i'm going with this}The friggen benchmarks{3DMARK06,HL2 Lost Coast and Company of Heroes}ALL went DOWN!By about 15%!!WTF?????!!!!!The latest chipset drivers are installed.Tried 4 sets of drivers.Mixed and matched all 3 7950's.Checked the nVidia website again too see if my MoBo would work with Quad SLI.....Check.....Made sure I had the rite BIOS installed....Check....all thats great.Called ASUS......"Duhhhhhhh........we dont know.........duh."So i'm back too running 1 7950 at 6700 3DMARK06 points until I can figure out WTF is wrong here.......HELP......much thanks!

If you read a lot of the recent reviews around the web, this is pretty standard. Seems as though they haven't worked out the kinks.

Sell the 2x 7950 GX2's and then be happy with a single GX2 in the AMD rig.

That'll solve some financial woe and the problem of no quad SLI working on that board

I cant figure for the life of me why the 2 7950's wont work!I have done EVERYTHING I know to do.I even thought it mite be a power problem{Not enough of it}so I took an old PS and hooked it up to a single 7950............No help.So I quit!

it might be a PSU issue still despite that PC P & C PSU you have in it. Although, i doubt it. Anyways, check the 12v rail and the amperages you're getting w/a multimeter on idle and under load. Did you have SLI enabled in the NVIDIA control panel? Is there any kind of setting in the BIOS of that board to enable/enhance cards running in SLI?

i don't know what else there is to check, but that's what i can think of ATM if you haven't already checked those.

One more thing i can think of is that one of the two PCI-E lanes do not function properly. Could be another possibility. Try a different MoBo in your machine.....for testing purposes of course. If it works fine w/that other MoBo, then you know it's your MoBo that's the issue.

Great idea, but I dont have a spare right now.Thanks.I think i'm just gonna have to save my x-tra $$$ for a while and upgrade to an Intel 6700.So thats a new CPU,new MoBo and DDR2.........bout a grand I guess....Whew!These damned things are nothing but a $$$ pit....But aint they fun!!In my opinion, there more of an addiction than anything.

Well initially the quad core won't be better simply because nothing really is taking full advantage of it..

but i guarantee you, down the road it will be..

i was just kidding on the fact though.... don't blow a pile of money on something like that right now.. using something in the meantime... i mean, even my rig is overpowered as is.

You said the computer you took the cards from was an extreme intel rig or whatever so, without knowing any of the specs, would it be so hard to belive that a computer with a slower cpu, presummably, and likewise memory would not perform as well as a computer with the latest intel cpu and probably some nice memory as well? Also the age of the motherbaord may be hindering it's quad sli capabilities as the new baord would be more likely to support quad sli in its current form then an older board.

while true, the fact that installing a second card, the scores and FPS in games should actually go UP when having a second card installed.

By about 50-65% depending on resolution and game.

The way I explain to people is to expect much higher FPS if they are running the same quality settings, significantly better IQ and same FPS as a single card configuration when running SLI. However, most cases, people get the best of both worlds .

True enough when they can slap in another card down the line when it gets cheaper and get some hefty gains for small moolah
