I didn't try it exactly. I went there and instead tried to copy files...didn't work.
I burned a cd of Puppy linux (or something), and 2/5 times it loaded fine. Her computer just stops loading (windows, linux, whatever) after about 10 seconds and feels usualy at the same time. Some times when turning on the PC it also makes some strange noise that feels like it originates from the power supply. Like having something on a deep frier or something, difficult to explain. When Puppy loaded, both times when I clicked on Drives where it has all the available drives the monitor lost signal and everything paused, keyboard not active etc. The same thing that happens when Windows work and after few min. Anyhow, managed to make Windows load one last time, transfered everything to a USB flash drive and about 30 sec after that, the same problem, lost signal to the monitor, everything froze, no keyboard nothing. I wonder if the problem is with the power supply. Thanks for your help.

if it does it whenever you try to or just get done accessing the HDD it may be on its last legs, u have a spare drive to try to load windows on and see if it does it? is the sound mechanical? might be the head on the HDD smackin around, my aunts old hp made some horid noises on boot and drive access, i warned her and one day it just would not boot.

It doesn't make any specific weird noises. However, the second to last time it froze it was when I accidently hit, slightly, the case. Tomorrow I will open tha case and have another go, my guess is something wrong with the PSU or the HDD.
