Advice/opinions on my new build

Update:

Ok it gets here wednesday, a few changes from below.

Abit AN9 32x Fatality SLI, Skt AM2, 2000FSB PCI-Ex2
AMD AM2 Athlon 64 Dual Core 5200 Retail Box inc Fan, Socket AM2
BFG GeForce 8800 GTS 640MB DDR3 PCI-E Dual DVI
Geil® Ultra DDR2 2.0GB PC6400 Dual Channel Kit (2 x 512mb) 800MHz
OCZ 700GXS Sli -UK nVidia Sli Ready 700W

Hows that? Going to cost me £550 since my mate took my old system for £300 which is £50 more than I wanted but he wouldnt take no for an answer. I'm really excited. This has been a long long time coming.

Thanks to >GSXR<MrBUSA for convincing me to get 2gb

Ok after months of putting it off I've finally decided to bite the bullet and build a new system. I have to order within the next 48 hours.

http://www.microdirect.co.uk/Product...roductID=14662
Abit AN9 32x SLI, Skt AM2, 2000FSB PCI-Ex2
£119.15

http://www.microdirect.co.uk/Product...roductID=16130
AMD AM2 Athlon 64 Dual Core 5200 Retail Box inc Fan, Socket AM2
£187.99

http://www.microdirect.co.uk/Product...roductID=15914
XFX GeForce 8800 GTS 640MB DDR3 PCI-E Dual DVI
£295.13

http://www.microdirect.co.uk/Product...roductID=14775
Geil® Ultra DDR2 1.0GB PC6400 Dual Channel Kit (2 x 512mb) 800MHz
£85.66

Total including VAT and Delivery is £690.

Can anyone see any obvious problems or build something better than that. The only thing I ask is that it comes to not one penny more than £690 and the more you can save me the better, this is really really stretching my budget as it is.

The prices seem right if my conversions are correct.
The only thing I can suggest is to not get 2x512. If all you can afford right now is a gig of ram then I would buy one 1gig stick for now and when you can get the other 1gig stick.
Once you have a GPU like the one you are getting that can max out game settings then the game is going to max out your 1gig of ram real fast.
Good luck on your new PC

Donator
Why not got with intel core duo? instead of amd..as its faster atm?

Prices from overclockers

core duo 1.87ghz allendale core *oem*

dfi infinity 975x

bfg 8800gts

2gb geil ddr pc-6400

total £686 no inc shipping

if you was to go down to one gigbyte then you could save a packet

Thanks guys

Andy the DFI board is crossfire, i'd need SLi with the 8800's. Besides im a bit of a AMD fan at heart and it's took long enough to make the Nvidia switch after always being an ATI guy (They have really pissed me off lately and had better do something pretty big to redeem themselves). That 5200+ is nearly £100 off the normal price.

U could get ur self a nforce 680 sli board. They aren't that expensive. Those run core 2 duos and 8800's.Best performance bet.A bit pricey. It'll take ur build from 686 to 766.

Come on guys and gals you forgot the PSU

Anyway ive just placed my order, settled for the following

AMD AM2 Athlon 64 Dual Core 5200 Retail Box inc Fan
Abit Fatality AN9 32X
2GB Geil PC6400 4-4-4-12
BFG Geforce 8800 GTS
OCZ GameXStream 600W Silent SLI

Whole lots cost me £850, yeah I know I broke my budget. But I sold my old stuff for £250.

Edit: shame we dont have anyone in the uk with a computer store cos i'd be happy to order from them. Or do we?

Ok had confirmation, everything shipped earlier today and should arrive in the next 12 hours. This is like christmas eve X10. Sorry if im harping on about it but im so excited.

Think i'd be tempting fate by changing my sig?

I was looking through some of my old computer part boxes and stirred some old memories. I found an old Abit board which was the first ever board in the uk to have raid, I had it specially pre-ordered from Japan and all the manuals are in Japanese LOL. I also have on my desk a Hercules Geforce2 GTS
64mb and a Athlon 900 slot processor. It seems that after 6-8 years i've come full circle. I have some good feelings about this 8800GTS.

I've got my camera on charge so i'll try to take some pictures as I build it tomorrow, hopefully it might help some newer guys. It's only fair to try and give something back to the community.

Guess what ive been doing, well yeah apart from that I mean a man can only do that for so long.

Thermaltake case is about 2 year old-ish and if you look in one of my pics you'll see my trusy anti-static strap remember kids always use protection).

Had a real fun day putting it together, one thing I will say though is that this thermaltake case will tear you to shreds, I must have lost about a pint of blood today. Now to take it upstairs, boot it up and start installing some programs. Wish me luck
