Bellator is on a distinguished road

do older pc games only run on intel?

I'm planning on making a legacy win 98 partition to play some classic games I have on. Most of these games have requirements like "P166 or higher" etc... for the proc. I am wondering if older games may only run on intel cpus, or no that's not the case? I have an athlon 3200+ in my rig.

You shouldn't have any such problem.

AMD, Cyrix, TI and others were making CPUs that work as good as Intel for decades.

True, for a while only true Intel and AMD over k5 were able to use MMX, though there weren't that many games that needed mmx to run in the first place.

Hmm, I think Cyrix's 5x86 also supported MMX but not sure, so long ago.

I found it funny, if not also frustrating when i once tryed running the first ever WingCommander game on my K5 166pr.

i was expecting it to run far to fast (cus it doesn't make use of fps) but instead it ran like a snail, much slower even than it did on my 12.5 MHz 80-286 !!! LOL

Work that one out. i still wonder about that today. (how sad am i) god i love that game. I even re-bought wingcommanderII on CD-rom to try and play it again, cus my 6 floppys that the game was on, were fubar!.

If any one would like to help me get these games to work again, your more than welcome to offer me advice. (seriously) games just aren't like they use to be, all tec demo & no real game play. Give me a copy of Lemmings or sonic the hedgehog Anyday.

Dowaco is on a distinguished road

Some games can be played in XP if you configure the .exe to use Win 95/98/ME compatibility mode. Right click on the EXE and select properties|compatibility.

You'd be very lucky to get DOS games to run on that with sound, especially OLD ones.

There's a program called VDMSound that when combined with compatibility mode yields amazing results.

Then again DosBox is just as easy to use and configure and works just as well
