Sanyo introduces system to store 1.4 GB to a CD-R

CDRLabs reports that Sanyo has posted information on their website that announces a technology called HD Burn. HD in this stands for High Density and allows consumers to store up 1.4 GB data on a normal CD-R.

Currently there are already CD-Rs on the market that can contain 900 MB of data, but Sanyo's technology adds another 500 MB. Here are the benefits of the technology as noted by Sanyo.

System Specs

You can go VERY wrong, if it eats your data.....

I'd be more convinced if it required special grade media - since the write laser is tied to the capabilities of the dye, so I would assume the shorter wavelenth lasers would not be an option.

The smaller the feature size, the greater the effect of any error at the edges (jitter)

You might get 1.4Gb onto a "giveaway" CD, but it may turn out to be a THROWAWAY!
