So, guess what, BSOD. atikvmsomething.dll caused it. pfff

Not going to wait for another 18 or so hours, so I did another quick test, all is fine.
Played some of the files, worked fine.
Started moving the files back to the C: drive.

Error moving file or folder. Cannot move file; cannot read from the source file or disk.

Tried to copy and not move, same error message.

Tried copying one folder with 3 files, total 8gbs. Worked for a while, copying the files in like 20 min, only not. Just as it was ready to finish got some error message and stopped. I forgot the message lol. However, in the systray the yellow triangle with the black exclamation point appeared. Checked the system event viewer and have the following error listed.

Event Type: Information
Event Source: Application Popup

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

So, do you think it is the drive after all?
I do.

EDIT: I also found another event there, that happened earlier. I am copying and pasting it here.

Hm, that is all happening when using the same PC and USB interface, or did you try to plug it to another PC?

If you didn't do that already, try the drive with it attached to another PC, if possible. If the same errors occur, it is most likely the drive. But if it works just fine, it should be a compatibility problem with your USB controller. That's a long shot as I said, but it is possible.

i can't be sure, however, since this is not your first time with USB drives (as per your initial post), so i'm sure you know how to use the drive.

i think people would return it for less reason than that (all the problems... and the time you spent to find out more about it),
and as i understand (now) that you can still return it, and all it needs is you to be petiant and wait for the replacement to arrive.
tell me what you think?

Bad sectors on the disk, other faulty hardware, or software bugs can corrupt the file system and put files in a problematic state. Typical operations may fail in a variety of ways. When the file system detects corruption, it logs an event to the event log and you typically receive a message that prompts you to run Chkdsk.

Where many people become confused is that because their computer is triggering a disk checking utility, they automatically assume (as does the software) that they have a problem with the file system. Infact they may have a problem with their hard disk that has in turn caused a problem with the file system. So, although the symptoms are in most cases identical (i.e. the automatic triggering of Scandisk etc), the cause of the problem is rather different. In these instances, running disk checking software is to be avoided at all costs.

The disk checking program is not capable of diagnosing the correct problem (i.e. a faulty hard disk) and misdiagnoses it as a file system problem, and then attempts to (often automatically!) repair the problem. Data that was often fully recoverable now becomes damaged, fragmented and unrecoverable.

Update:
I returned the disk to the store today. But I forgot the usb cable. The technician plugged it to a laptop and it transfered 1GB of files to and from the laptop without the problem. BUT, 1)when he first plugged it in he said that he could see it only as raw, when I definetely had it formated it, twice, before returning it. 2)The copy itself took like 15min or so for the gb.
He said I should bring the cable tomorrow and see what we will do. I will try to get a refund, though not sure if I will manage to do so if the drive works fine for them...
I just don't trust the drive after what happened, you know? I don't know though if legaly I can do that or not. (don't forget it is not USA, it is Greece/EU)

Well well well, all went ok, apart from 100GB of lost data of course.
I got a refund, cash, which is a bit strange since I originaly paid with a credit card lol.
Got 50 dvd+r Verbatim, and a pair of headphones, plus the cash.

From now on I will copy all the files that I do not need all the time on DVDs (not just the 50 of course) and be safe (er).

Did they pinpoint whether there was an issue with the drive?

The only problem with backing up to DVD is keeping track of files and if you keep quite an extensive program library like I do then keeping them up to date without having to reburn the whole DVD sucks.

That sucks you had so many problems with your drive.

the prices of 250 GB / 320 GB internal SATA hard drives are now quite reasonable.
and then install it on something like this...
eSATA + Firewire 800 + Firewire 400 + USB 2.0 Enclosure Aluminum...
http://www.satacables.com/html/firew...e-aluminum.jpg

if your motherboard's SATA controller doesn't support the SATA Hot Plug feature, or the eSATA port is not available,
but one of your SATA ports is available, you can use it as an external SATA connector via a eSATA port internal to external Adapter PCI bracket ( http://www.satacables.com/html/sata-pci-brackets.html ). however you will need to connect the hard drive when the computer is already turned off.
