Congratulations on your purchase. Good luck with the overclocking.

H3X4D3C1M4L will become famous soon enoughH3X4D3C1M4L will become famous soon enough

I just took a Core 2 Duo E6300 from 266FSBx7 = 1.86 GHz right to 400MHzx7=2.8GHz on 1.3 volts... and that's just because I got sleepy and didn't feel like doing more. I posted it at FSB450 even and it was stable in windows (no CPU burn in tets or whatever though).

These things OC like MAD.... its scary to someone who thinks 400Mhz out of an Athlon XP is godlike

I was benching into FSB500x7 = 3.5GHz at 1.45 volts but I didn't feel like turning all the fans up on it to lower the temps (getting to 55-60 on full load with a Zalman 7700CU on low speed).

These things really do go like mad... especially on the P965 chipset.

You can get 3.0ghz - 3.4ghz or so pretty easy with a 6300-6400 on air with pretty good temps. Make sure you get an aftermarket Heat sink + fan as the intel ones suck. Also use a good thermal paste Arctic Silver 5 is best if your not to familiar with using thermal paste, if you are use CoolLabs Liquid Pro its a pure metal thermal that hardens after about 48hrs and gets about 6C lower temps than AS5. DO NOT USE if your not very familiar with seating heatsinks or apply thermal paste.

Just be very very very very damn careful when using Liquid Pro. There are 3 things to consider when using this stuff:

1) Being made of metal the paste will conduct electricity, so be sure not to get it anywhere else than on the CPU itself. Otherwise you will regret it the instant you turn on the power.

2) This stuff acts physically like mercury, so the best way to apply it evenly on the CPU is with something like a lint free brush. Very thinly too. If you have a tower case you should wait 2 days for the paste to cure before standing the tower upright.

3) You CANNOT use aluminum heatsinks with Liquid Pro as the liquid will damage the aluminum.

Believe me, this stuff is cool, and it works, but it's also damn scarey as one mistep, and you could fry your system.

Yeah I probably should have further indulged as to the precautions to using this stuff. Ive got like 15ccs worth of it haha, it should be fine right after you apply it to stand up since a HSF is applying like 90-100lbs of force on the proc so if the thermal paste hasnt already squeezed out into the socket, its not going to laying down or standing up.

And liquidpro shouldnt be used with aluminum on the basis that gallium is in liquid pro, and gallium corrodes alum like you wouldnt believe, also if you have an aluminum case dont get it on there.

Also to further talk about your new chip, id suggest getting a P5B DLX with that chip as they can do 500FSB np usually and they are pretty stable.

Probably.. personally I never saw a problem with AS5. At least if I get that on my mobo it won't melt through the entire floor.

No, but in My opinion it is the best TIM you can buy, though it is alot harder and alot more catches to apply it when compared to Arctic Silver 5. If you do happen to buy this TIM, heres some tips.

To apply LiquidPro use a lint free cloth (Preferably a MicroFiber one as they work best), you will want to just add a rice grain sized amount, and spread it till there is no noticeably more LiquidPro over the IHS of the chip than another spot, and for good measure after youve spread it a Little and are happy (Leave a lil bit of room for the liquidpro to spread out a lil more when you apply the HSF, IE Dont cover the entire chip)

And I have found it works best if after you are happy with your application of it, just to add a tiny bit more in a lil line in the center and then apply. Since with core2 the cores are situated in the center and a little bit out from that it seems to work best having a lil tiny bit more there.
