DDR RAM help needed
Alright folks, I'm going through all my spare RAM, and I've found some 256MB DDR RAM, but I can't figure out what PCnumber it is exactly.
The sticker on it says '256MB, DDR, 333, CL2.5' Now obviously I'd presume the DDR was 333 but can you get DDR333, it doesn't list it on ebay you see... Sorry if this is a stupid question, I'll accept any stupid answers!

I reckon it'll be DDR333, smack it into the system and see what it says in your BIOS

thanks for the replies! Basically I didn't know what PCxxxx number it was, and couldn't figure it out.
I put it in the system and although you could hear the PC boot up the screen went into standby and nothing happened. I took it back out and put my old RAM back in and it worked again, my system is compatible with PC2700 RAM so do you think its broken or could it be something to do with BUS speeds and similarly confusing things!

Is your system overclocked? Maybe the module isn't able to work at higher frequency.

DDR333 is PC2700.
As long as the mobo supports DDR333 it should work but it looks like you've got an odd divider setup happening: 100FSB to 166RAM. I know my mobo works at that ratio but perhaps yours doesn't? You always have the option of running the PC2700 RAM at PC2100 with lower latencies. |

If it's been floating araound for a while without proper packaging, it could have suffered static or a scrape

thanks for the replies guys. I turned on another PC I was given and it didn't work in the same way as when I put this DDR333 ram in my own pc, took the ram out and swapped it for some that worked and it came on fine. So I really do think it was faulty RAM. In the bag to be sent for recycling it goes! Thanks again!

A shame, but an interesting experience none the less... I've never really heard of RAM dying of old age
