hi there everyone!

vie gots a Seasonic 600W PSU and 1 ati 1900 radeon 512xt + 1 1900 MSI radeon 1900 CF gpus


the past couple of days my pc would randomely freeze and stop responding. i have had no overclock for 1 month now- and when i did i had no issues with temps or anything.

so i thought mabye it was a virus- reformatted DRive C (main), fully updated mobo, vid cards, realtek HD audio, cpu drivers (amd drivers for dual core) - windows xp fully up to date! but it would still freeze- especially when i had my creative zen hooked up to it...then today my cpu froze and i shut the pc off and on again after 15 seconds...the player died (that ticked me off but luckily i have 2 yrs warranty on this baby!)... so what i did was disabled my slave card...now it doesnt freeze at all- whatsoever...i think mabye my psu doesnt have the right volts on the rails or amps or whatnot- im going to reenable the card tomorrow and see what happens. personally i am strong with the psu theory-

any input as always is much appreciated and valued- game on friends!

**now if it IS the psu- would a nice 700W psu do the job? by ocz or somethin- i dont care about the money- i just gotta game dammit! im not up for 1 card crap lol i was playing oblivion so nicely for the past 2 months!! 4aa+AAA- with hq AF (i know this might not impressive for the new next gen card folks but damn it is for me lol)**

It could a PSU with inadequate 12V rails, but a 600W PSU should be able to power your system. Maybe it is just bad.

But I personally suspect the motherboard as well. Several motherboards can be problematic when Crossfire configurations are set.

Agreed. Both ideas sound right on.

One thing you might want to try, ptsigas, is that if you are powering both cards using 2 PCIE power connectors (that is if your PSU has them) to stop using one of the PCIE power connectors, and switch to a dual molex to PCIE power adapter as a way to pull power from a different rail. If, however, you already are, then you might want to try connecting one molex connector to one line, and the other on another line.

i have a seasonic here is the link for it...ill try that out tonight guys back from work thanks fior the in...the mobo i have is a a8r mvp32 deluxe x3200 crossfire chipset- so its made for CF mode- im stickin with the psu rails

I had a OCZ 600 watt dual 12v rail PowerStream PSU that would crash and burn when operating 4 HDs/ 2 120mm fans + 92mm cpu heatsink fan + 1 DVD-RW and mouse/keyboard that are USB.

The PSU would just overload and kick the switch.

This only occurred while pushing the OVERDRIVE on the mastercard over 650mhz core and 770mhz memory within about 20-30 seconds of running something demanding. Overclocking the CPU or other things would cause it to die sooner.

Upgrading to a 700watt OCZ GamerXStream psu resulted it all.

Could you post the exact rated 12v rail values?

Then your PSU must have been faulty. Your system with all these that you mentioned does not consume more than 500W, with everything loaded to the maximum that is.

Separate 12V rail values mean nothing; every PSU will have an overloaded 12V rail supported by another, less loaded 12V rail.


The A8R32 is a problematic motherboard, that's why I suspect it more than the PSU myself ptsigas.

Well initially the A8R32 boards were horridly riddled with bugs and problems.

Since the 502 bios release, majority if not all the issues have been fixed. (well issues related to using the board at thier stock speeds or slightly overclocked). 602 further increased stability and capabilities.

The only issue that i'm aware of yet is that the Vcore on the cpu when cranked up, doesn't seem consistant. Other then that. rock solid stable.

and grace, according to Ryder from OCZ on the forums, plus using a PSU usage caculator, my usuage was spiking just slightly over what the psu was rated to sustain. Reason it would kick out.
