Need to buy a Raid Card for SATA, what should i get and why?
Hey guys,
I really dont work with raid all that much these days. I have a project coming up in 2 weeks, I need to put Raid in a Dell server that doesnt have raid atm. I need to buy a PCI card but there are so many to choose from.. I am just going to be useing 2 drives, So I belive Raid 1 = Mirroring right? I have the HD's I want, just dont know about the cards i should go with I am looking for something around 100 bucks and it has to be name brand. Let me know what works best, eg install, Ez of setup, I will be using Windows 2003 Server. |

Can you tell us what series of Dell computer you have? Inspiron, Precision, XPS Gen 4? Things like that would help. Also, any information on the chipset running the system such as an Intel 865 chipset, 915, that sort of thing. Edit: you can also run a program such as CPU-Z which will give you information on the various aspects of your computer. You can get that HERE. The most important page is the 3rd tab in that program that lists your motherboards manufacturer, model, and the chipset running it.

Give PROMISE a look. They've been around a long time and have a good trackrecord. I used one of their IDE Controllers for years when I was on Win98 and using large HDD's.
