Problem With Video Capture Device

I've recently updated my computer to the specs that you see below in my sig. I've been using a Hauppauge WinTV-PVR-150 to do video capture to copy a bunch of old VHS tapes I've had. On my last computer it worked fine, but since I've upgraded I cannot get any audio with it. I've tried switching cables from the VCR to the PVR-150 , but that didn't help. I have Nero 7 Ultra Suite for my burning software and have been using it to do the video capture with it. Nero has all the latest updates. I've also upgraded the drivers for the PVR-150 and that hasn't helped either. I've considering trying something else, possibly a USB device, but wanted to see if I could get any suggestions from you men of wisdom here at DH. I don't know if this maked any difference, but on my last computer I was using the onboard sound and now I'm using a Creative X-Fi Extreme pci sound card.

OK....just some very basic questions here first.

1. Does this motherboard have onboard audio, also? If so, have you Disabled that in the BIOS? If not, you need to do so. Check the Device Manager to make sure there's only one Audio Device...the X-Fi....being used.

2. Have you attempted to use the X-Fi GUI to determine exactly which connections are which. I'm not using that audio card, but, on mine, depending on my speaker configuration, the connections can vary. For video/audio recording it likely would be best to set the speakers to a simple stereo setup....maybe.

3. Have you checked the output connectors to make sure you're getting audio at all? Maybe with a set of headphones connected inline?

Thanks for taking the time to answering my questions, DS. To answer your first question, yes I have onboard sound and I have it disabled in the Bios.

To answer your second question I have looked at the X-Fi help guide and have been unable to make any determinations.

As far as I can determine, I'm getting sound from the video sorce I'm using.

Whether this will help or not, I'm not sure, but, the GUI I was referring to is something like this:

This shows exactly which sockets function for each feature. Sometimes, depending on how the Speakers system is setup, those particular sockets will perform a different function.

There should be an option to get to this either in the Task Bar or under your X-Fi in the All Programs list.

yep, like Dyre was saying those inputs/outputs can do some weird stuff. my asus boards' line-out occasionally defaults to microphone for example, so you really need to nail down exactly what your sound card thinks each in/out socket is doing

how are you determining that you're getting sound from your video source just out of interest?

Hi Guys

I've solved my problem. I had as I always do when I update my computer, went to the latest version of the software of whatever I'm using. Recently when I updated, I updated my Nero Utra Suite 7 burning software to the latest version (7.7.1.5). I've have had all kinds of trouble with it since I did so. Anyway, tonight after I got of work, I uninstalled the 7.7.1.5 version and went back to the 7.2.7.0 version of the Nero 7 Ultra Suite. Bottom line is I now have my video capture working again.

Thanks for your help and suggestions, guys.

I believe you mean v7.7.5.1.

OT: You know it's funny you, and I always seem to be running very similar systems. I almost bought the 8800GTX but decided to wait. What can I say though you're a man of good taste. How is the MB doing for ya?

I stand corrected, Necrosis. And I can tell that you are a man of good taste, also. The eVGA board is working fine, I've had no problems of any kind sofar.
