Should I Lap This Heatsink?

OK Guys, here's the deal. I've had a X1900XT for 3 1/2 months. I'm sick of the DustBuster like sound I get with while gaming, so I ordered an A.C. Accelero X2. With the stock heatsink/fan I get temps in the low 80s(83max) in Oblivion after adjusting the fan speed from stock.

Temp/Fanspeed
0 45%
55 55%
65 64%
75 73%
80 77%
85 86%

In other games I might see 76 or so at load, but not much more. I have read mixed reviews about the Accelero X2 as far as temps go, but I know it's quiet and temps should be at least the same as the stock HS/Fan that came with the X1900XT. As of now I plan on scrapping off the thermal paste that comes with the Accelero X2 and using AS5, as I've seen in reviews that I can get a 2-5 degree drop from that alone. Would it be worth my time in your opinion to lap the HS of the Accelero X2.

My PowerColor X1950 Pro came with the Accelero X2 cooler.

My load temps are around (right now) 44C. In Oblivion I rarely even see it get into the 70s at all. If so, it's like 72C.

So, yes, I can recommend it and, yes, you should go with a bonafide thermal paste like AS5. No doubts about it.

if the thermal paste doesn't do u any good after about a week since applying.(thermal paste performs best a while after application)
Then wipe off the paste and lap the base.

I don't know that lapping would give you better temps... as long as the paste is spread nice and thin and even, and as long as there aren't major gnashes or marr's in the surface of the heatsink, lapping might be a bit more work than necessary.

**update** I put on the Accelero X2 using AS5 today and I'm very happy with it. My temps are running in the range your card does Dyre. Idle it's running 43c right now and after a 20 minute run in Oblivion my max temp was 70c, but mostly mid 60's. It is a little cooler in my office today 69-70f. It's normally anywhere from 72-77f, so my temps might go up a little in the future. Overall I would have to say it was money well spent. I highly recommend the Accelero X2 to all X1900 owners out there that are sick of high temps and the Blow Dryer sound effects from the stock cooler.
