??? A few questions about Ageia PhysX

I am currently not looking to get rid of my AGP system untill Windows XP Pro SP3 arrives at the end of this year or early next year. You can all see my system specs at the bottom.

So here's a few questions I have...

1) Will an Ageia PhysX card help out my graphic card in general or will it only improve performance in specific games like the ones that are currently supported by Ageia PhysX?

2) After installing an X-Fi XtremeMusic sound card in a PCI slot in my PC, my graphic card was telling me it didn't have enough resources to function properly, this was resolved by increasing the AGP Aperture size from 128 to 256. So the question is if I buy an Ageia PhysX card, will my graphic card have enough resources to function properly?

3) If the Ageia PhysX card does improve performance in general to all games as it is a dedicated physics processing unit. Would an Ageia PhysX card or a Radeon X1950PRO AGP be more beneficial to me in terms of my 3D Mark 05 score?

3D Mark 05 - 4650...

Thanks to anyone who can help me with my questions.

For the money, you should simply get a X1950 Pro AGP card and that will be enough.

I can't think of any really good reason to even consider an Ageia card at this time.

1. It will only improve performance in games that support it... like GRAW/UT3

Plus it adds extra bits to be rendered & with that 3D mark 05 score of yours - imo it will be far too taxing for your system to render.

2. Shouldn't be a problem

3. The physx card won't affect your 3dmark score AT ALL, the X1950 should give you a nice boost

ageia is about to become obsolete. ATI physics solutions and Nvidias are going to oust them all together. I believe either ATI or Nvidia was looking at buying out ageia a little while back. But dont buy this card as support for it will quickly dwindle with ATI's physics solution and Nvidia.

Unreal 3 may yet prove you Ageia haters wrong.

Don't hate the player, hate the game

I'm not really a hater of Ageia; I just don't see it becoming a viable alternative to what ATI and nVidia are already doing or planning to do.

The technology I'm interested in is AMD/ATI's idea of unified CPU/Video.

Well yes that will be interesting but not to a serious tweaker/gamer.

Having to chuck out a $1000 CPU (assuming you wanna keep on the top end sans OCing) is one thing, and replacing 2x $700 video cards is another... but replacing both at once is a whole other story.

There's also the thermals to consider, GPU manufacturer's can barely keep their chips under control heat wise.... add that onto CPUs that have barely begun to consume less power and generate less heat and you're looking at a mobo with like 24 stage power converters and the beefiest MOSFETS and capacitors ever... as well as a new power supply standard to deliver that much power to a mobo

Interesting to see if they'll do it in the high end though. I myself prefer flexibility but hey.
