hmm...

If you are thinking elcheapo decent speakers that'll get the job done, check into the logitech packages, they do a damn good job for a cheap price, and pack all the parts you need (in the higher end models) for hooking your tv up to them and getting the full capabilities and sound you want.

However, if you want something REAL.

Check out garage sales, you may find a diamond in the rough. Some decent sized good/high quality speakers that today could be worth over 3 grand, have been sold for under 25 bucks at those sales. And finding an amplifier good enough to power it is another matter.

IMO, brand new though, i personally favor the Yamaha Amplifiers, and i really enjoy the Sound Accoustics shelf/cabinet speakers. Problem is, to make it work while, it's big bucks for it.

Seriously though, if your thinking about a theater/sound system of any type worth getting that'll surpass what your TV provides already, save you money, save up, get something good, as anyone, ANYONE i've talked to, that hadn't listened to me, and went out and got a low end sound system, even a ghetto blaster with aux inputs, has seriously regretted it down the road.

Keep an eye out for a late 70's, early 80's model of a Baycrest Amplifier, it can be easily, and cheaply modified to fit in some major wattage.

And another matter, WATTAGE doesn't equal Loudness. WATTAGE equals clarity and less distortion. Any home system being powered by under 500 watts won't sound as clear as most people would like. And they have a habit of thinking that low wattage system, close up, cranked, sound loud, but at a distance, are horribly distorted.

Giving us a buget will also help. Having that size of TV it's a shame not to use it for movies. Are you going to purchase the HDDVD add-on as well?

Try one of the logitech packages.
Z5500 500W THX certified, you'll probably get them a lot cheaper than us over there. I'd love a set for my PC.

Eh, PC speakers? For the same price you can get a nice boxed setup that will do the job. Never mind having a real receiver which looks nicer. Even if you had the money for Hawg I wouldn't suggest Bose. If there is company I hate more than Sony it's Bose. Give us a budget and we'll come up w/ some thing.

Here is a nice setup: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1152228969433

IMO, the cheapest DAMN GOOD set of actually steller sound, is probably the Logitech 5300e set, if i were to pick up an all in one set, it'd be this. It's got all the extra adapters and whatnot needed to hook up just anything.

While the 5450 logitech set would be steller, it's the most expensive set, and the 5500 is pretty much identical, except unlike the 5450, it has wires running to the rear speakers.

The cheaper set that you could easily afford might be the X-530/540 series from logitech.
