MS-Dos on a chip?!?!?

I found a 286 at a tag sale and it seems to have a removable rom chip with MS-Dos built in. My 286 in my sig has what seems like a slot for it, but I dont want to ruin a top of the line 286. Do you think I should risk it?

EDIT: I should have mentioned that the 286 I bought is dead.

Huh?
Where on the chip is this slot?
My 286 doesn't have such a slot or "rom chip"
What are all the markings/serial numbers on your chip?

got a digi-cam?

Oh, I thought it was an Intel chip . . . that's what mine is
well interesting still . . . why do you think the "rom chip" has ms-dos? it says it on there? does it say what version of dos?

Wait a sec, when you say you bought a 286, are you talking about a whole computer, or just the 286 CPU? Cuz I thought you meant CPU

Then it's MS-ROS (ROM operating system)

Ok, I bought a whole computer and the guy said this was a rom chip with MS-Dos built in. I wanted to know if there is any truth to that.

The guy probably just never noticed the disk in his FDD If it is true, though, I would be quite interested in seeing the specs on it - however, if I recall correctly, Tandy was a company that did BIOS stuff

Heh, that clears it up for me I was thinking how on earth would a CPU have a slot for some other chip, on it?

Well, it just might be true then, but I wouldn't wanna risk upsetting such a "leet" system just to find out

how much did the dead comp cost you?
