I have a question about O&O Defrag Pro V4. When I defragment my drives, there's all these yellow blocks that I think are supposed to be reserved for the MFT according to the legend. These blocks look like they take up a little more space than my data blocks. The weird thing is that they sometimes appear when I defragment and sometimes they don't. Another thing is that I can only defrag using the STEALTH, and SPACE methods, which is fine but any of the COMPLETE methods (i assume all of them, I only tried the COMPLETE/Name method) cause my computer to freeze during defragmentation at random points. I have tried this several times and it happens every time. I have to press the reset button to use my computer again. Something else that bothers me is that in the boot-time defragmentation it keeps giving me the "MFT could not be defragmented" error. It always happens on my secondary drive and sometimes on my primary drive. One last thing: I thought that after I defrag with this program, I wouldn't have to do so very often. But what I have found is that every time I restart my computer, my files get defragmented again. Here is a screenshot of the "yellow area" I was talking about, also notice all the fragmented files after only one restart:

Some software cracks are not written properly, or cannot fully crack the sofware.
The software then either does not function, or does not function the way it should. If yours is cracked, either buy it, or use a free defragger . . . or continue your ways . . . .

It's a perfectly good version, trust me.
EDIT: Oh, I just remembered, it couldn't be what you say because I didn't use a crack. I used a serial number. Last edited by -={420}=-; Mar 27, 2003 at 12:53 AM. |

Well, I installed the standalone prog and so far it didn't freeze even with the COMPLETE/Name method. The yellow space was still there but later disappeared! But only off of my main drive, it's still on the secondary one.

I use Diskeeper Lite, which you can d/l for free from their site. It works nicely for me (much faster than the Windows defrag) and even comes even with the FragGuard which monitors your drives and tells you when they are getting too fragmented
(even if it says that it is only in the full version...)

It's so weird though, it's like the program is playing games cuz one time I defrag and the yellow area is there and another time it isn't. On both drives this happens.

Now don't take this the wrong way, but why would I want to use anything other than the defragger that comes with Windows, especially in XP? I know about the WinME defrag trick for 98 to make defragging faster, but why use a 3rd party defragger at all?
I'm just curious. |

Well, basically speaking, it defragments files that Windows Defragmenter does not and also adds more features and options to the process. Another thing is that you can defragment serveral drives at the same time. Here is what O&O software has to say:

I used SpeedDisk (Norton Utilities), but I don't like the way it behaves under XP. In 98 you had a lot more control over where you wanted your files to go (like avis/mpegs at the end of the HDD, swap at the begining etc). Under XP I can't even disable the "sort by date" option
