Power Supplies

As you may have seen I am in the market for a new PSU, and I think it would be better to start a new thread instead of going off of my idiotic post in the OC forum.

Newegg.com - ENERMAX Galaxy EGX1000EWL 1000W Power Supply - Retail

Enermax Galaxy 1000W w/ pci-e 2.0 (for next gen pci-e cards dx10)

I can get this free shipping for $317... what do you think? Plz Reply Quickly

My other choices were
Thermaltake ToughPower 850
OCZ GameXstream 850
OCZ ProXstream 1000W (290 + shipping)

I honestly like the Enermax Galaxy as it is a trusted brand, and it is built for future applications. Let your words be heard and help me in my decision. $317 no shipping is a killer price IMO and yeah I wanna get it b4 it is sold out (like the last 2 things I bought they were shown as sold out after my order).

Thanks

EDIT: E6600 (probably evga 680i) 4x 1G Doms future 8800GTX SLI just to let you know I am going to need some power.

Good choice, at 1000w, the only better PSU you'll find is the PC Power & Cooling Turbo-Cool, which runs far more expensive.

i may like something else with single rail designed (PC Power and Cooling Turbo-cool, or EMACS) more, but i also like the Enermax too.

I'd go with enermax or ocz (probably the cheapest of the two); i wouldn't touch any thermaltake psu though. Enjoy the crazy new rig

Thermaltake isn't all bad. Some of their PSUs have been rather awful, but the current Toughpower line is on par with the Enermax Liberty or OCZ GameXstream.

I couldn't tell you which, but if either were available to me, the 1000 watt OCZ would be my first choice.

What about the BFG 1000W powersupply? They seem quite good. Personally wouldn't touch another OCZ product but I know they are popular with the masses.

A poor quality or underpowered PSU could cause system instability or damage/failure of components. It could be argued that it is of a higher or equal importance as your CPU, RAM, GFX & mobo. I reckon it should be included in the system specs on the DH user profile IMHO.

Sorry for drifting off topic - Its probably been discussed before and that there's a very good reason not to include PSU in profile.

I've never had a problem with OCZ or Enermax PSU's, OR Sparkle PSUs, although i haven't had many CoolerMaster PSU's either, i've never had an issue with any of them either.

However, i use OCZ PowerSupplies in EVERY machine i build enless the consumer requests that i build a cheaper machine, thus i usually sub it for nothing lower then either a sparkle or coolermaster psu.

While some people have had "terribly bad" experiences with a specific brand, hell even multiple, i usually TRY the product again down the road hoping that my luck with that one doesn't continue, however my 2nd Ultra Power Supply went poof again about 20 days down the road, and now i've got both the orginal 500 watt i had order way back when and the bastard ultra never gave me an RMA or refund or anything, and i'm still in a battle to get the RMA put through on this most recent model. That's over 300 bucks down the drain on a specific company with zero help from them. I'll probably try them again 5 years from now hoping they get there shit together.

Actually a PSU is probably the MOST important peice in the entire machine, without it, you've got no computer reguardless of what you do. To many people go exceptionally cheap on this component, OR they get good stuff and don't get a proper surge/UPS device to go with.

Good Clean power is the most important thing for electronics, you can by cheap garbage components, or excellent components for a computer, but if the powersupply is a hunk of garbage or the power feeding it is, it's all going to run like pure shit.

A spot in the profile for PSU's wouldn't be a bad idea, imo, it would be nice if we could fill in our entire system specs. But that would take up much to much space, Perhaps a newer version of Vbulletin will provide a random profile generater, allow us to fill in everything, and on every post, randomly pick specific system specs. Maybe not, was just an idea.

Im not sure about including any other parts as I just don't see their importance. They're more like upgrades or add-ons IMO. Just the CPU/GFX/MOBO/RAM/PSU would be perfect for me.

I agree with you and Judas completely, a lot of people buy cheap crappy PSU and then complain about stability and low overclock.
It's a pitty that PSU isn't included in the profile, it would be cool having Enermax Coolergiant EG485AX-VHB(G) SFMA in my profile

At least I can finally be proud of my PSU. I do currently run a OCZ ModStream 450W which has actually increased my OC stability from my Antec True Power 500.

Well, if I had the $$$$$, I'd get this rascal in a heartbeat:

Koolance, Inc. -

The PSU-1200ATX-12S features 96A (simultaneous 12V@85A) over four 12V rails, modular cables, and 4 PCI-Express connectors for SLI and CrossFire support. It is able to unleash 1200W of continuous (1400W peak) power at greater than 80% efficiency by operating in a completely submerged state. This patent-pending design is superior to even "partly" liquid cooled and heatpipe power supplies. All internal electronics are immersed in a non-conductive fluid and dissipated through an external heat exchanger.

However, that puppy has a 499.99 msrp, so it's just a 'wee bit' out of my price range
