Any good DDR400 RAM
I am overclocking my newly installed Pentium D 945 CPU. Trying to boost the FSB from 200MHz to 230MHz. The CPU accepts this bus speed. But the DRAM doesn't.
I am using currently, 2 sticks of "SUPERTALENT" DDR400 RAM which runs at 200MHz bus speed. Are there ever, any DDR400 RAM modules which can run as high as 230MHz out there? Would Kingston RAM do the job, or COSAIR would? Your information will be highly appreciated, thanks in advance. |

There are modules that will run as high as DDR600 if you want, but they're not called DDR400
![]() In terms of overclockable PC3200 (DDR400) modules, there are many that will easily hit that. Your RAM should be able to, you may need to relax the timings and add some voltage to them but they should be able to get to DDR460. |

I'm dangerous but cute...

About a month ago I managed to buy some GSkill samsung TCCD PC3200 (in profile) which I've tested at DDR500 at stock voltages but relaxed timings on my mobo. I'm 100% certain will go much faster but unfortunately I have to raise the voltage on my old but humble Northwood to get any higher and don't want to do this as I want to use my rig for another 10/11 months and value my CPU. 2-2-2-5 DRR400 and 3-3-3-6 DDR500 are the timings on my mobo which are stock voltages and tested stable Prime95 etc.
It took me about 3/4 weeks to find the RAM through loads of surfing and googling and are no longer available from the same place that I bought them from. I found the TCCD available via 2 different resellers so if you want fast PC3200 I advise to get searching for samsung TCCD chips. Good luck Edit: Hi Sentry11 and welcome to DH

high end DDR memory will be more and more difficult to find now that ddr2 is out.
but i've a question for you though, what is the chipset of the MoBo? Asking because AFAIK, the 8xx and 9xx series CPUs used only DDR2 boards. |

a few Intel 865PE/865G chipsets motherboards from ASRock with 2 DIMMs DDR400 do support Pentium D 8xx/9xx, i think.

[/COLOR]I hit that 1:1 linked on my ocz enhanced latency platinums. 2x 512mb. That of course isn't very stable. I hit 240 stable 1:1 without a hitch right now.

i thought that the few 865 chipset boards that were made to support 775 chips only supported a maximum of the 6xx series p4 CPUs.

Mobo Chipset=i865P/PE/G/i848P
Southbridge=82801EB(ICH5) What timings should I be using then? Your suggestion will be highly regarded. I have just used a new CPUID program known as Crystal CPUID http://crystalmark.info/download/. The program is a fantastic one. It tells you how much you can overclock, that is to say the max clock speed you can reach. For my 945, it says 23%, i.e. up to 4000MHz!! I am so happy. I think I will invest into 2 sticks of 1G PC4000(500MHz) memory. Last edited by Sentry11; Mar 2, 2007 at 05:52 PM. |
