Scratching My Head: Core2Duo "Real" Frequency
I have a Core 2 Duo E6700 rated @ 2.66 GHz. The Intel mobo is a D975XBX board. BUS speed is 266 MHz. So, in order to get the 2.66 GHz, there has to be a 10X Multiplier, right?
BUT, both PC Wizard and CPU-Z are showing the "REAL" frequency of this CPU as being 1600 MHz with a 6X Multiplier. Anyone have a clue as to what's happening?

Have you updated your BIOS?
On my FX60, it would not recognize as a full speed unit until I did. |

First, before I go back into the BIOS again, I have updated the BIOS to the latest revision.
But, from what I could see in the BIOS a little while ago, it all looked normal. |

Can you change the multiplier? On the conroe's you are able to adjust it down, just not go over stock mult.

After I flashed mine, I had to set the multiplier manually. But I did the CMOS reset jumper on my MB after that and it seemed to auto-recognize everything after that. I was afraid it wasn't going to work - but I'm glad it did. It was an expensive update.

Intel has Speedstep, just as AMD has Cool'n'Quiet..
When the cpu idles, it lowers the multi. Under load it goes up to 10x.

its EIST/C1E taking hold of the processor heat and powerconsumption. If you do something like run Sandra with CPUz open you would see it jump to 10x whenever the processor is in use. Disable it in the bios.

I think you can avoid that if you change your POWER SCHEME under Control Panel, Power Options and change it from MINIMAL POWER MANAGEMENT.
I set it to Always On, or HOME/OFFICE DESK |

Its C1E or EIST as zardon pointed out, the new CPUZ 1.39 is now correctly showing what the system is running, before it wasnt picking up clocks for every board. People that have a Bad Axe 2 board will see that even if C1E and EIST are disable, its still enabled. Currently its a bios bug that they are resolving I believe.
Just put a load on your system, and you will see it jump to a 10x multi |

Thanks, guys. I can stop scratching my head now. Prior to using the latest CPU-Z, only PC Wizard 2007 was showing this. So, it kind of made me think that something was wrong with PC Wizard. Apparently, it's a good program.
So, if you haven't tried it, check it out. PC Wizard Home Site I started up Prime 95 with CPU-Z open and definitely did see it jumping back and forth between the 6X and 10X until I set it to use the CPU all the time. Then it became constant at 10X. |

Zalman's do well for C2D overclocking too, the 7700Cu works like a charm. 1000RPM fan speed and you can still hit 3Ghz with a 6300 and minor voltage increases
