ok im stumped........ system freezes

ok, ever since i got my new hardware, HIS IceQ3 512mb (Rev1), G.Skill DDR400 2-3-2-5 ram that runs at 2.6-2.7v, and D-Link 300mbps Draft N PCI wireless card......my system has become unstable and freezes up if left idle, it happens at random times, when im playing games, watching a movie, browsing the internet or even when i just leave it idle......

reformatting didnt work, and putting in my old ram didnt help, do you think its my graphics card as i know the first HIS 512 cards were a big mess and alot didnt work (i know its one of the first since it didnt come with a 4-pin molex to 6-pin PCI express)

my PSU has 30-32A so i THINK its ok, but i had similar crashes that went away with the purchase of a beefier one ......

Try running Orthos and memtest for a couple of hours each. If they pass at least you'll know your cpu and ram are not the issue.

Orthos

What was it running at before the video card upgrade? 60c in not too bad for load temp but if that is at idle its too hot. Make sure all the fans working, all power cables are connected, that the cpu hsf is seated properly. It's easy tap something loose and not notice it
Also keep an eye on the cpu temp when running orthos; the cpu will get real hot, real fast

well, it froze at about 50 mins at 66c, but i dont think thats the prob as it would most likely have frozen at the beginning. my power readings dont seem to be below in any of the levels, and i rememer when i plugged in my 9550 it still froze (though i didnt install the drivers yet)

am going to do memtest tomorrow when i get a blank disk

I've got the exact same problem since installing the HIS, GSkill and PSU. Totally random freeze that might not occur for 1 week. Can happen when idle or when watching DVD, surfing, gaming......

100% stable with Prime95, OCCT and Memtest. All temps across the whole system nice n cool

I know CPU stable at overclock and RAM is TCCD so should have no probs. I've tried relaxing timings at increasing voltage to max of specified range (2.65-2.85) and is currently at 2.9v.

I might test with my Corsair installed to see if GSkill is the problem!?!?!

if that is the problem, though i doubt it, then i may just buy the Kingston HyperX since i know Kingston runs with this thing great......

You should try to reseat the cpu heatsink; 66c is kinda hot even for a P4. If I had to guess, I would say your problems are heat related. First try fixing the obvious (overheating cpu) and then try changing components

If this didn't start happening until after you got your new components, then try swapping out your old components one at a time first. I would start out w/the gfx card and see how the machine runs w/the old gfx card first.

but before even that, try what dipstick said and take care of the CPU temps first.

Think of what components you installed, also get a can of air and spray out the PCI slots and reinsert the PCI stuff your using, those slots are very sensitive and can cause system lockups if theres a bit of dust or something in there.

The problem I have is that it happens so infrequently....once very 7/8 days or so.

Guess I'll do what everyone has suggested. Remove everything and blow out any dust with air can. Try with original hardware and run for 2 weeks. Then replace each component 1 by 1 and test for 2 weeks with each piece of hardware.

Good luck Kris.

lol i hope i have enough time to return them if its the stuff....... because if it doesnt work me and my dad agreed to just save the money and build a new system, im thinking the 965p DS3, G.Skill 1000mhz 4-4-4-5 ram, PNY 8800GTX and E6600..... and a WINDOWS XP DISK! jeez the driver support for vista was almost enough to make me kill myself

my system cant seem to run the hardware too well as it skips even at medium settings like my 9550.....

anyone know when that new Bearlake chipset is coming out?

wow...........

lord jesus....... the entire reason why my system crashed alot.....

IS BECAUSE OF MY STUPID D-LINK DRAFT N CARD!!!!!!

i was annoyed and really, its the last component i havnet checked in my system, and to my surprise....some hardware or driver problem was causing it and removing it allowed me to do anything i needed reliably, so im back to using my rusty old linksys wireless G.....

the thing really is faster than the N card anyway...
