Both of them appears to be 720p/1080i tvs.

However i'd personally want to go with the 5000 contrast ratio, 12.8 billion color model... all the specs on it are "more" if i can use the term correctly.

neither is 1080p native at all. Both support the Xbox.

If i were to give you another options however, check out Dell's list of TV's, you'll probably get a hell of alot better HDTV, and maybe even get 1080p native support @ 40" for about the same price..... but that's a big maybe...

The ones you are linking on Newegg are different to those in your first post. The ones on the Samsung website (your links) are really 720p TV's as Judas mentioned. (you can tell by looking at the resolutions. anything with ****x768 is a 720p TV. The 1080p ones are ****x1080 resolution).

So are you saying your choice is the ones you linked on the Samsung site or the ones you linked on Newegg?

the choices are the ones in the first link(s)
BUt those in the first link(s) look exactly the same as those on newegg?(or am i wrong)
And is there a big difference b/w 1080p and 1080i in terms of viewable area and image quality?

EDIT:
http://www.samsung.com/in/products/t...?page=Features
http://www.sony.co.in/productdetails.do?prod_id=406
Is the sony TV better in any way?Its cheaper and it gives 1080p thru HDMI only, where as the samsung displays 1080p thru any interface???
those are way outta my budget though
So plz answer my previous question
Is there a big difference in IQ and viewable area b/w 1080p and 1080i?(i hope not)

@necrosis-
I'm from india, hence the links to the Samsung India website
I got a budget of approx $2000-$2500 which is 90000 to 112500 indian ruppees
The prices of LCD tv's are sorta inflated in india
So my choices are limited.

Please answer these questions
1.Is 1080p essential for the future?
2.Is there a big difference b/w 1080p and 1080i?
3.Which of these 2 are the better choice. For watching TV shows and playing xbox 360 games?
http://www.samsung.com/in/products/t...l/la40f71b.asp
http://www.sony.co.in/productdetails.do?prod_id=406
Both are over budget but can be squeezed in one way or another.Unless ofcourse 1080p aint worth the extra cash

Plz help out

K, guess I wasn't paying too much attention.

Too bad you couldn't get a hold of one of the Westinghouse displays.

1. Yes, but it's more important if the display over say 45" or so.
2. Yes, and no it really depends on the quality of content you're watching. If it's lower quality HD you'll notice the difference.

Going to say Samsung because I can't stand Sony.

Ok so i'll go with a samsung TV
Now the question is the extra price for 1080p worth it?
I could get a 40inch TV with 1080i for $ 2300 where as i got to pay close $700 extra for 40 inch TV which supports 1080p
So should i go for it or save my cash and get a 40inch bordeaux?

Srry if i'm asking too many questions.Cause this TV has to last a long while(atleast 3 years)

If it has to last I'd go w/ 1080p, then it'll be good for longer than three years.

ok last question(s)
1.Is 1080p worth the extra $700?
2.How long would a 40inch bordeaux(1080i) last?
3.Would i notice any difference b/w the 2 while playing my xbox 360?(1080p/i when games start to support 1080p)

1: 1080p imo, IS worth the extra waud even @ 40", however, that's my opinion, quite a few others don't really need it, nor really care about it.

So ask yourself one question, Do you like quality, are you a fan of a high resolution, crisp clear sharp image, or would you be happy with a slightly duller, less crisp, and slightly more limited image quality. (Do you like gaming on a computer @ 800x600 or would you really like gaming @ 1280x1024? [or higher])

2: 1080p content is already starting to emerge, and it will only start become available even faster. A 1080i tv will last as long as the LCD itself last, and is replaceable. All HDTV content should be able to downscale without a hitch to a 1080i tv, it's when they decide to change the format completely again, that you'll have to change, but that could be for decades yet.

3: Refer to number one again basically.

[4]: As more and more 1080p TVs flood the market, you could expect the tvs to start dropping in value very quickly within the next 6-12 months.

Thnx for the post Judas
I think i'll stick with 1080i for now
If i don't know how good 1080p i can't complain about 1080i
I game at 1280x1024(wishi i could go higher but i only have a 17 inch monitor) on my PC
And i have a crappy SDTV for my 360(sad)

Thnx for the posts everyone
I'll be getting the samsung bordeaux 40inch LCD TV(unless theres a severe price drop for the FHD version soon)
Thnx again
I'll be buyin towards the end of this month.I'll try to post pics

In the last 3 months, the market for LCD TVs and changing specs I hvae seen 720 TVs go for $2-3000 q3 of last yeear, and now those same tvs are running around $1000-1500. In December, expect the prices to really drop. That is what I am waiting for, a 42" 1080 platform for around 900-1100 if not cheaper.

another option for me is to buy a Dell 2407 FWP for my 360 and continue to watch shows on my SDTV till next year when hopefully 1080p would be affordable
The 2407 is really tempting saves me more than a $1000 and gives me 1080p.Only for my 360 though
I'm confused again......(i'll figure it out somehow, still got time before i buy)
