Memory for E4300 and Gigabyte GA-965P-S3
I'm considering upgrading soon with a Gigabyte GA-965P-S3 and E4300. I need some memory, but I'm not 100% sure about my choices. Right now i'm deciding between two OCZ 6400 modules- I know its overkill for an E4300, but when you're in Canada, the 6400s cost as much as the 5400s, so I'll downclock the 6400s and tighten the timings, ugh.
I couldn't find the vdimm in the GA-965P-S3 manual, so I don't know if i have to go with low voltage memory. I don't know if these are low voltage memory. OCZ (OCZ2G8002GK) DDR2-800 PC2-6400 Gold XTC 2GB (2x1024MB) Dual Channel Kit $215 http://canadacomputers.com/index.php...80&cid=RAM.475 OCZ (OCZ2P8002GK) DDR2-800 PC2-6400 Platinum XTC 2GB (2x1024MB) Dual Channel Kit $224 http://canadacomputers.com/index.php...67&cid=RAM.475 Mushkin SP PC2-5300 1GB 1X1GB DDR2-667 CL5-5-5-15 240PIN DIMM Memory *Lifetime MFR Warranty* $105 each http://www.directcanada.com/products...acture=MUSHKIN Which one do I pick? Do you know of any 5400 modules from a Canadian vendor that are not overpriced? I've tried tigerdirect.ca, canadacomputers.com and directcanada.com. It makes me sick how overpriced computer hardware is in Canada- I go to zipzoomfly and now I know why everyone buys corsair- $136.00 USD for this!!! If you don't want to spend a lot, http://www.directcanada.com/products...acture=CORSAIR .
Definately would be enough for an E4300. |

yeah but I want to run the ram synchronously, I want the ram to have the same speed as the fsb. So if I oc my E4300 to 366 fsb, do you really think that Corsair value select will be able to hit 366? also thanks for the recommendation.

Which in turn would require something that can run DDR2 800 no problem. That is if your running it 1:1, the 965's operate at best performance under 4:5 ratio usually, but not many people can run that. And 4:5 would give you DDR2 915mhz which would be 366x1.25=457.5x2 = 915 since 4:5 will run 1.25x faster than your FSB speed, and since its DDR (double data rate) you would multiply by 2 to find that. hope that helps. EDIT: and to finally answer your quesiton, yes that value ram will do 4-4-4-12 at DDR2 690 1.8v its more than capable of running DDR2 800 with relaxed timings or 4-4-4-12 with a lil more voltage or if you want relaxed it will prolly take stock voltage, if heat is an issue, buy some ramsinks and a ram cooler. |

thanks a lot Chaos, thats exactly what i was hoping for- that the Corsair has a decent chance of ocing to 732 MHz. People may say that the 965 runs better at 4:5 ratio for higher ram speeds, but I probably won't be able to tell the difference- also, for a budget system corsair value select will do the job, and running synchronously will probably have an advantage.
