Some older revisions were forced from DDR400 to DDR333 - a really painful step.
As I understand it, newer revisions have a smaller penalty, the step from 1T to 2T. Can't find if the modules are single or double banked (often termed "sided", but it doesn't have to match the chips/sides configuration), Four single banked modules would function at maximum speed, whereas four double banked cause the reduction. Unless the system is really "easy" on memory, 2GB at 2T would probably be faster than 1GB at 1T

CPU revision - I think the dual core is recent enough to only have the "T2" penalty from running a total of 4 banks, and not the old shift to 333 - not found a review that mentions it yet.
http://www.planetamd64.com/lofiversi...hp/t24818.html That'll have to do... So some motherboards will default to 333 for greater compatibility, but can be set to 400 (at T2). The only other thing I can think of, is to try your existing memory from both machines in one, and see what options can be selected with all banks loaded, then decide if it's worth using 4 modules (with the minor reduction of T2) or not (if only DDR333 can be selected).

If you're that concerned about 2T timings, get 2x1GB sticks but don't buy Corsair. Their RAM is good but ridiculously expensive.
OCZ 2GB PC3200 kits can be had for really cheap and I've never personally had a problem with an OCZ kit. |
