i've decided to share the love amongst my sisters. what it is that i've decided is to build my youngest sister (9) a new machine.

As to what specs are, i'm still not sure. it will be something along these lines......

945 chipset MoBo
8xx/9xx CPU
1Gb ddr2 667
7300GT
80Gb SATA (WD or Seagate)
450w PSU
17in. LCD
new case

i want to keep it around $500 for this build. any ideas on what hardware specifically would be much appreciated guys

Without the monitor, its under 500 bucks. Monitor is something like $179. This is kind of the PC that I built for my brother- except I put a 1600PRO vid card and a Pentium D 945 in his. Believe it or not, the case, while pretty inexpensive, is laid out pretty well (for a cheap case, that is).

I say ditch the LCD, it's an unneeded expense when they're that age.

. what imna do instead is buy my other sister (silent society) a 20/21in. monitor that supports 1680x1050 res. and give her current monitor to my youngest sister.....yay for hand-me-downs!

my sister was 14 and i built her a P90mhz 72mb ram, 1.6gb hd, machine for her to screw up and use specifically for microsoft word and msn messenger...... I'm glad as hell i didn't put all that much money into it as she has a habit of trashing a machine quick.
