FSB question

According to my mainboard it is set at 200 (mhz?) which is the min. with max allowed 500. Not knowing what it is, etc etc, should I just leave it at 200 or move it up? Is 200 too low?

200 MHz is the standard 'real' FSB. What the 'realized' FSB is depends on the Multiplier of the CPU. 200x(multiplier)4 = 800 FSB realized.

Adjusting the basic FSB in the BIOS settings is the first step in Overclocking a CPU. However, doing so without adjusting other settings (PCI/AGP) will result in those BUSSES also being overclocked and some of these are quite sensitive to it. Especially, AGP. So, a lot of OC'ers LOCK the PCI/AGP to 33/66 MHz if the motherboard BIOS allows it.

Hope this gives you some bit of an answer to your question. If not, let us know exactly what it is you're wanting to accomplish.

What is the stated speed of your CPU vs. supported speed?

hackerx is on a distinguished road

ur sorta wrong there
intel procs uses a quad-pumped bus which is independant of the processor multiplier
so if FSB is 200mhz then bus speed will be 800mhz
But processor clock speed will 200 x 'y' where y is the multiplier of ur processor
U shouldn't increase bus speed unless u know what ur doing
If default is 200 leave it at that

OK, my explanation maybe a little fuzzy. Let me see if I can clear it up some.

A lot of motherboards boast a FSB of 800 MHz. However, this is the result of having the CPU "quad pumped" as hackerz points out. That's what you get with the 'realized' FSB I referred to. The CPU speed is still built on a base of FSB of 200 MHz in most cases.

So, if you take a CPU that boasts a FSB of 800, if you increase the 'real' FSB (the 200 MHz) up to, let's say, 215, and the CPU Multiplier is, let's say, 2.6, the end result will be: 215*4*2.6 = 2236 MHz (2.24 GHz). The default for this same CPU would be: 200*4*2.6 = 2080 MHz (2.08 GHz).

The end result of any overclocking will depend a LOT on just what the CPU multiplier is.

That's what I was trying to get across and didn't do a good job of it, I guess.

Well, right after the memory test (boot) I get these numbers:

DDR400 TCL 3
1T Dual Channel 128bit
TA(or R)CD 3
TRP3
TRAS 8
They seem right?

Looks like that memory is able to run CAS 2 (or according to comments, CAS 2.5 with AMD) - TCL 3 sounds like CAS 3.

The other two 3's seem right, and AMD stems often like to have TRAS an the longer side (according to the RAM, it could be 6)

The other thing, it says 2.75V for the memory, if it's only getting 2.6v then it may fall short of being stable at full spec timings.

Higher than 200 FSB, would be an overclock.

Ther is little difference between Intel's "800 FSB" (200 quad pumped / 200 dual DDR) and the AMD S939 (dual DDR) in terms of potential memory bandwidth, it's just semantics.

I have changed the TCL to 2.5 and the TRAS to 6. I haven't found the option for the voltage so far.
System runs stable. (some CC3 games).
I haven't experienced any speed difference so far.
