New rig
OK, now it's for real, I'm probably going to have a new system in the next 2 months, I already made some choices for it and I was wondering if it looks okay to you. But I don't know which RAM to choose.

It looks pretty much ok to me, although I would swap the motherboard for a Gigabyte P965-DS3. It costs about the same money and it offers a few more things.
Also, get the 64-bit version of Vista. You have a 64-bit capable system, you don't have anything to lose or something by getting a 64-bit OS. Everything is backwards compatible. |

Do you really need a floppy drive and two seperate optical drives? Try direct canada too, you'll save quite a bit of money.

IMO there is no reason to go with a 64bit OS unless you plan on using more than 3GB of ram. |

the only advantage to a 64-bit OS is the possibility for more than 3GB of ram, otherwise it does nothing for performance.
How much do you want so spend on ram? |

Are you looking at maybe doing a bit of overclocking? You might want to pick up a CPU cooler as well if so. You certainly have the potential there to have some fun!

Save yourself the hassle and get the Asus P5BDLX over the Vanilla, the vanilla has a crappy bios.

He went with the Gigabyte board. The deluxe would have been nice though more expensive. The Gigabyte is better than the Vanilla though.

That's a fine cooler. Thermal compound is not necessary, you'll find enough of a fairly good thermal compound included with the cooler. |

Just to be sure, it replaces the stock heatsink and fan of the E6600?

Freezer 7 Pro has pre-applied MX-1 paste.
i use the MX-1 thermal compound myself for all of my heatsinks installation, it's only third-party thermal compound i've been using for quite sometime now. it's very easy to apply with the installations, worked well every times i can remember, and low price. |

It's going to be my first built, so I don't want to miss anything before I order the pieces.
Thanks guys!

You can always wait for the next best thing. If you want a computer now, buy one now.

exactly. So you wait till november/december when Penyrn is released. Then ATI states they are releasing a new videocard in 3 months, ooo, better wait for that. Then when ATI is about to release the card, AMD states they are going to release something new soon. Don't play the never ending waiting game.
